This line made me snicker: "And Facebook has planned to build 1,500 apartments near its Menlo Park headquarters, with 15 percent to be affordable." So, 85% of the housing created is too expensive to be purchased? Sounds like a pretty poor business model. ;)

‘Affordable’ in this context means ‘to someone on a median income in the area.’ It doesn’t mean nobody could afford them otherwise.
