Well 2 years ago or so before the current Xeon scalable and Epyc chips it was relatively common to have server chips in the 65-95 watts. Often servers with 2 chips (mid range) would be $2,500 to $4,000.

Unfortunately the realities of Moore's law (or the lack of it really) means that the perf/watt stopped doubling. So in a single generation a mid range server went from 65-95 watts to 180 watts or so. At the same time server costs approximately doubled.

Higher end chips are now over 200 watts.

The good news is that while they consume quite a bit of heat that the physical size of the socket, heat spreader, and chip have significantly increased. So you still have to dump the heat, but it's not as hard (read that as noisy) as it was cooling the smaller (with higher heat density) chips.
