Playing overwatch means playing the way blizzard intends you to play. No new maps, no private servers, no admins to get rid of jerks, etc...
The game mechanics seem largely the same with respect to a lot of the characters, but then they added in one-directional shields and turned it into team strategy game with much less room for individual skill -- again with no real ability to just run your own server and mandate a different playstyle.

There's plenty of room for individual skill, which goes beyond hitting Q. One-directional shields only reveal that teamplay is necessary, by themselves they don't add the necessity of teamplay. A poorly coordinated team doesn't do a good job. Even if both teams didn't use shield tank heroes, you'd still need just as much coordination.
