Maybe if they asserted themselves as much as the EU does the tech situation of the US would be the same as the one in the EU.

Would the EU assert itself so firmly against a European Facebook? Maybe multiple governments fighting for their slice of the internet tax pie is just slowing big tech's regulatory capture.

Maybe, maybe not. Is the EU's situation a result of their regulation?

Probably.

Based on what? Any evidence?

Yes, I assume that European are as smart an entrepreneurial as Americans, therefore the kinds of companies they build are likely a result of the regulatory environment.

There are big European software companies, such as Avast, but they are mostly now owned by Americans.

There aren't big European social networks, but that might be caused by the fact that Europe is linguistically and culturally very fragmented. Which does not matter as much if your product is an antivirus, but it does matter when you build a product whose value is in the sheer mass of mutually communicating users. The Anglosphere is HUGE.

Reductionist to the point of nonsense of course. It could be any of many factors.

Such as?

Such as legacy effects.
