That Firefox is doing this is very much like yesterday's new Facebook URL https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32117489 where people complained Firefox screwed up by escalating.

By default firefox only prevents content with audio from autoplaying, which I can't think of any way to circumvent and it's probably good enough for most people.
