Companies have always wanted hardcore workers. What they will always get is workers who are best at convincing the company how hardcore they are. If it means setting up my own domain, then dammit, I'll setup my own domain.

This is why you never base your hiring on anything but primary skills. Everything else is a toss up and better evaluated during the course of employment.
