I'm really interested in the Data/ML roles! Is there anyone I can contact directly? I'm not seeing any Data Science or Machine Learning Engineer roles on the website

Sorry I haven't checked HN these last days. They have been fulfilled but we may reopen some this year. Check the page times to times or subscribe to our Linkedin page.

BlaBlaCar - Software Engineers (back & front), Engineering Managers - France / Ukraine - REMOTE (from those countries not abroad)

We want to be the go-to app for shared road travel (for now: carpool, bus). The app is used all over the world (26 countries).

The year 2020 was… covided (:/) but that didn’t prevent our users to use the service when they wanted (thanks to the magic of a user based network), and we continue(d) to increase the size of the Engineering & Product teams.

Our Fun and Serious culture is described here: https://blog.blablacar.com/about-us/culture You can apply directly directly on jobs here: https://careers.smartrecruiters.com/blablacar (please precise you saw the offer on HN & my pseudo).

Then why did they invest in WeWork [/s]

Jokes aside, anyone who solves the loneliness problem for remote workers (something that WeWork attempts to solve) will benefit itself and society a great deal.

BlaBlaCar | Paris, France | Onsite / Remote | Full-time | https://blog.blablacar.com/dreamjobs

We are offering a carpooling/bus platform, 22 countries, 70 Million members. One of the few French Unicorns.

Direct to jobs list -> https://careers.smartrecruiters.com/BlaBlaCar

We have multiple positions available: - software engineers (web, iOS, Android, backend) (Backend: a lot of Java, but also some Go, Python, php) - data (analysts, engineers, scientists) - Cloud/DB (SRE, Database reliability engineers)

And also a bunch of non-tech positions for those who want to work in a tech+transport company.

We are mostly a multi-sites company but we are open to work from home/remote position in France (not outside of France, sorry).

We may be able to sponsor visa, and BTW, if you are from an EU country, you don't need a visa (even UK, but maybe not for long...).

Please indicate in your application you have seen my message on hackernews.

Edit: we can probably sponsor visa, but ensure to talk with HR, I don't know enough this HR area. BTW, if you are from an EU country, you don't need a visa). Edit: please precise in your application you have seen this on hackernews

Although I am not HR I work at BlaBlaCar and the Visa has been sponsored by them. Besides, no remote work outside France is available formally.

Are you also open to remote candidates outside of France?

Sorry, but as far as I know, it's not the case. But we are considering non-France base candidates willing to relocate in France.

The future is already there. It's just not evenly distributed. So Shadowrun/Cyberpunk 2020-2077.

They only lack of the extra-territoriality for their offices :)

Because on short term it opens you a big market (1+B users/customers). Because if you don't go there, one of your competitors may go there. Because some people still think that they will only lost low tech/low IP.

Other comment are right but you also forget about salary (which are lower, so purchase power is smaller)

Belgians are one in top of the richest in the world, by averages.

So we just don't spend it as much, as we have excellent cheap health care and in America, it seems you can go broke if one thing happens due to extreme costs -> more spending. That's seems to be my current opinion of reading HN, feel free to correct me

I have this to back me up :https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_financi...

But I'm wondering what the averages would be if we exclude the top 2%. Which probably skew the numbers for the USA ( not sure)

Congratulation Apple. You have added the worst feature ever: the touchbar with adaptive keys. I discover this feature with Lenovo X1 Carbon (not the first generation): I would have paid not to have it. I lost so many minutes everyday. [Yes, I know this is optional on MacBook]
