First I support and like OSS,it has helped to innovate and advance research.
"Top Eight Existing Business Models"
Advertinsing: annoying for a lot of users, advertisers can influence in your sw development decisions
Auxiliary services : this is one is the most sustainable ways to work like red hat
Corporate development and distribution:a problem for FOSS in general since big corporations can influence a lot in stable FOSS projects, facebook, google and microsoft pay working hours to contribute to FOSS projects and to influnce to their commercial benefits : "Embrace-Extend-Extinguish", and if the community doesnt accept their changes they simply fork the project and call it a derived version.
Crowfunding : is good for completing a project but not long term stable
Proprietary relicensing: this is not FOSS for me ,and it is hypocrite
Membership and donations : excellent but for side income
SaaS :for me this is way to go if you offer FOSS sw,since you can add value to the product mixing it whit auxiliary services(some closed sw abuse it and offer unnecessary SaaS like office 360 and Adobe)
Update subscriptions:same as Proprietary relicensing
Software certification: double work
Selling user data : most successful business model from google, mozilla, every social media ll of them has to sell your data to earn revenue, macµsoft do it too even if your allready paying them , this model delimits your freedom as individual, even if the code is open source to discover the telemetry like in chrome, the projects are too ofuscated to disable it sucessfully (ungoogled-chrominiun is a good try).
Open source licenses give a lot of freedom to the users but also should be rework to give more rights to the sw creators, the ability to sell their work as sw pakcage allowign to share their work but keeping their comercial property for their work and all derivaties
I would like to know your opinion
