I just made a python script that I keep running that updates when there is a new post from one of my feeds. Feed list is stored locally.

You should post the repo/gist

People prefer no ads, that's why its easy to dip into chatgpt get a good enough answer and avoid the rest of the enshitification of every website.

I recently made a little RSS feed reader, and its barebones lives on my machine, and is powered by python.

I never could get into any of the RSS reader software it all seemed very happy to put random things in the feed that i didn't care about. A strict timeline of things i want to read is all I want. If there is nothing new there is nothing new and I'm okay with that.

Thanks for the write up and read.

Something else i HIGHLY recommend is subscribing to youtube channels Via RSS. You ACTUALLY KNOW WHEN SOMETHING IS NEW. I've gone way down on my youtube watching rabbit holes since I only engage with it when I have a new video.

Why build something near or semi near conflict?

Valid question, but just look at the huge amount of R&D / the tech companies in Israel. Even if it’s near conflict, I don’t think companies care

A company doesn't care. An army does.

A tale as old as time.

One of my ticks is repeatedly highlighting text over and over. I blame years of drone splitting.

It also helps me focus on reading.

What is drone splitting?

In StarCraft you can give individual orders to your initial group of workers (drones) instead of giving them one big group order. It takes only a few seconds for your drones to move to the resources so you only have a few seconds to click and give multiple orders.

Someone played EVE Online.

You mean StarCraft.

My pi's are just an easy onramp for me to have a functional NAS, PIHole, and webcam security.

Not at all the best, but they were cheap. If i WANTED the best or reliable, i'd actually buy real products.

The internet has allowed anyone to build a voice/following. Whether they should or not.

I think it can be starting point for some, then slowly reintroducing the distractions when they build up those muscles.

I use a very basic system similar to this idea of running TODO.txt, but they are notecards i write every day. I sit them Infront of me and any timed tasks go onto the calendar. Outlook Calendar has notifications so those are my prompts for time based activities.
