Long time Firefox user here. I use a metric shit-ton of addons, and customize everything drastically. "Refreshing" is a massive pain in the ass, as re-configuring everything while also maintaining the "clean settings" is just a difficult combination.

Despite this, I've completely wiped out both my settings and firefox install on several occasions in an attempt to keep things stable.

It doesn't help.

I'm aware that my addons are likely a big contributor to the memory-hogging and eventual crashes, but if I didn't want to use these addons, I'd just use fucking chrome. The ENTIRE point of Firefox is for the customizability. Dropping addons to improve stability just isn't an option for me.

about:performance gives no insights? It could be just one add-on that spoils it all, unfortunately.

Didn't know about this, neat. Regardless, my problem will stay, as I have no intention of removing anything.

I'll keep an eye on it to see if there's a specific addon triggering my issues, but it will likely stick around.

A thousand thanks for this, I didn't even know this existed.

Is there a discover ability plugin for features like that?

I'm tired of all this "war on encryption" bullshit. Every week it's another attempt. How much longer must I cower in fear of these ignorant lawmakers trying to undermine the entire basis of security? Are they just going to keep trying until something makes it through?

Will this ever fucking end?

That tiredness is why it's called a War.

It's a fight few want to be involved in, and without mass involvement it will be lost. The repercussions of losing are a huge step backwards for privacy and security.

The lawmakers are failing to ideate properly.

They seem to be requesting what they need from an investigatorial perspective, but combining that need with another request for how that need should be fulfilled.

We technologists need to help bridge the gap of their need and how they can accomplish it. That would be: to set expectations of the im-/possibility of meeting their need.

Do that. Generate statements on what reality is for encryption. Don't get distracted by the frustration of seeing "ignorant lawmakers" do their thing. Help them ideate, shape the conversation, and win the war.

Why do legislators try to stifle strong widespread encryption? There must be either legitimate unsolved concerns (like law enforcement) or they're answering to other stakeholders who have an interest in weak encryption (big business?).

I'd be interested to discover the motivation behind these bills, if it seems that these laws aren't in the public's best interest.
