This is very nice, and priced just right. Could easily replace the desktop of just about everyone in my family.

Indeed. The device covers the needs of half of the faculty at my college. Their version of Android looks very polished.

I will drop by and write some of my ideas. What I absolutely do not want is for the client to rely on, yet another, third party servers/services.

Does it require a CloudMagic third party server to operate, or it is a plain vanilla email client?

The FAQ seems to imply that having a CloudMagic account just makes it so that you don't have to set up your email accounts on each device: http://help.cloudmagic.com/article/create-cloudmagic-account...

They definitely use "the cloud", but their FAQ may be able to answer some of your questions there too: http://help.cloudmagic.com/section/security/

The FAQ is very light on details. No mention on how the mail is stored on their end

We store metadata of the last 14 days email on a rolling basis.

What about message content? Is that passed directly through or stored on your servers as well?

They are proxied through servers.

Does it requires a login, and/or my Gmail/Yahoo/etc. emails have to pass thru a third party server (yours)?

Edit:

Answered on help: "Every connection between Missive clients and our servers is encrypted using the Transport Layer Security standard (TLS). This also applies to connections between our servers and Gmail when we fetch your emails."

Thanks, but I pass.

Yes, it does pass thru our servers. That's how we can create shared conversations between members of the same team.

Our email client consumes data from our API.

I prefer Pocket (https://getpocket.com/). It is clean, it works very well, and it is free. I use it under iOS and OS X.

Thanks. Had used it a bit a while earlier. Not sure why I stopped. Maybe due to some phone issue. Will try it again.

Pocket is awesome. I have used is for ages, but can't justify the premium sub.

It clearly says "Julia the gorilla," not "Julia the programming language," or "Julia programming." :-P

I thought it might be a clever analogy or something like that :)

I am sure you will use their server(s) somehow ("added value service"). Yet another email client that is more than what it seems. Of course, all speculation.

Facebook account required.

I doubt it will be available. Normally two letters domains are reserved.

Who do they reserve them for? Deep pockets?

Exactly. For example, two-letter .de domains are far more expensive than normal ones – which is how DB and VW got theirs.

db.de (as well as ix.de, hq.de, and bb.de) was registered before the registration of two-letter was forbidden. After a lawsuit they had to give vw.de to Volkswagen which then led to permitting all short domains. Those were given out on a first-come, first-serve basis (i.e. to those with the best resources).

For $ in pockets DO graft.fu

"Run powerful apps and the latest games. Pixel C has an NVIDIA X1 processor and loads of graphics horsepower. Under the hood, you’ll also find over 10 hours of battery life to keep you going strong."

How much graphics horsepower does ChromeOS needs? On the 10 hours of battery life, I would have expected more for a, more or less, one application OS.

Edit: Oh, did not know it was Android. Thanks!

This is Android, not ChromeOS.

Its just that unlike the Nexus series, the Pixel series of devices are designed by Google rather than a third party.

It's running Android.
