Loved Aereo!

Though and as of now your hard wired Internet provider makes it impossible to have just affordable Internet without having some type of TV package. Any streaming service who doesn't also provide Internet service is highly disadvantaged!

I been paying $55 for 12 months for Internet and a few local and cable channels. Now that's expiring it went up to $70 a month but Internet alone is either $50 for 6Mbps or $85 for 25Mbps. 6Mbps is junk and Comcast knows it and if I added YouTube my expenses would be $85, yet who knows if 6Mbps would support solid streaming?

I'm waiting for 5G fixed wireless from Verizon and Att for some competition to Comcast! I'm sure they too will make it equally unaffordable to just have Internet without their DirectTV Now and Fios. Erggh these OTT services have a tough road ahead of them.. they will probably all end up merging with internet providers.

You'll be happy to know that the Aereo crew (myself included) is currently working on a fixed wireless ISP using millimeter waves and some very fancy active phased array technology.

Still doing crazy stuff with antennas.

And naturally, live TV, i.e. multicast, is easy and almost free for any wireless system, for example Starry or Google WebPass. And offers a good launch point for wireless internet services.

The CEO of Uber is a public figure and has as much right to privacy as he gave Sarah Lacy whom he let Uber stalk her and family for a negative article.

He is a ruthless, greedy, ignoramus, misogynistic pig who needs his ass handed to him and Uber to crumble before his eyes!

So those downvoting me think there is nothing wrong with having a reporter stalked, allowing your female employees to be treated like dogs... stealing your competitors IP... snubbing your nose at the law to put robot cars on the road that could kill people all for the sake of winning .. this and other horrible behavior is perfectly fine and that's why your downvoting me?

He is a great fit as an Uber executive... another greedy pig!

This one broke many laws and needs to go to jail!

Uber is the worst company even to its customers that have the unpleasantries in having to deal with any customer service issue.

My uber got hacked and some jerk took a supposed $1k ride in London on my dime. As soon as I found out I wanted to cancel my account but uber didn't allow users to cancel their accounts. I had to send an email and wait. Also they know about the hack and blamed the users for letting their accounts being hacked via not having a crazy strong password.

They need to burn to the ground .... run by total greedy douchebag pigs!

You can now subscribe to Sling($20 to $50 a month), Direct TV Now($40 to $80 a month) and Playstation Vue to watch live TV over the web or whatever device. Soon Hulu will offer the same too for $40.

Apple hasn't offered the same, but all these other services do. Overall none of exciting to me, as I just want and need Internet and watch things thru my TV connected to my Mac Mini (free & oodles of stuff to watch).

Well 5G internet service as I have read will become your home and wireless internet svc...all in one.

That means you will then have st least four to five (att, Verizon, Comcast, sprint and T mobile) broadband providers to choose from.

Sounds solid to me... one bill for my Internet on all my devices and lots of choice!

Will we have 100mbit to gigabit speeds (needed for working from home or for households with more than one person) and no data caps in this scenario? Predictable latencies (needed for video conferencing and gaming)?

On Facebook here in the middle to upper class suburbs of Baltimore I see friends of friends OD and dying once a month.

I don't understand why as growing up I dont recall such an epidemic, yet I do recall a ton of don't do drugs type of education. Has all those type PSAs & education in schools cease to exist and or not as well funded as back in the 80s and 90s?

Rise in overdoses can be attributed to dealers adding fentanyl (an extrememly strong synthetic opiate) to their product. If a particular salesman has a product which people have reportedly overdosed on will flock to them as they must be selling a stronger product. Another scenario is where the chemical isn't there in the first place and the dealer is simply mixing fentanyl with a filler, due to it's extreme potency (a dose being less than a milligram), making even a small mistake in the mixing can lead to many overdoses especially with tolerant users used to taking larger amounts.

Opioid prohibition ruthlessly selects for opioids that have the highest effectiveness per unit volume -- because traffickers want to make the most profit on uncut material for the same amount of risk.

Fentanyl is actually being synthesized by the Mexican cartels now and added to the heroin before it even makes it to the street dealers. It's getting really crazy.

[flagged]

> So Trump isn't so crazy on this whole wall issue ....

A wall can't stop fentanyl. A single gram of fentanyl is good enough for somewhere on the order of 10^5 doses. It is a trivial matter to smuggle a few grams of substance into a country, wall or no wall.

There are even stronger opioids making their appearance, such as carfentanil, which are 100 times stronger than even fentanyl. Only 19 grams of carfentanil a year are enough to satisfy current US medical demand for this substance.

Walls or Mexico cannot stop the war on drugs and the lopsided, perverse incentives it sets up, and the thousands of lives it ruins. That is entirely up to the American public and their representatives.

Immigrants are not flooding from Mexico to the US. The number of unauthorized immigrants from Mexico living in the US has been declining. These numbers are through 2014.

If you are aware of other stats contrary to this, please share. I'm more than happy to be corrected.

Walls don't keep drugs out. The corruption is largely due to the fact that the US keeps drugs illegal and in the hands of criminals while being the source of demand for drugs.

Umm please read I do not think building a wall is needed.

Also before you downvote I'd love to hear your thoughts as to why Mexicans come here illegally and in large quantities... why are they not staying in Mexico? Why is it not a country of wealth, opportunity and prosperity for its people like the US and Canada? Do you not think that's something worth questioning and trying to address/fix for all Mexicans?

You're essentially repeating yourself while not acknowledging the responses you've received to your previous comment. For one, the idea that Mexicans are immigrating to the US illegally in large numbers isn't supported by current stats.[0] If you have other statistics available, please share them.

"Dreamland" is the book that explains all this: https://smile.amazon.com/Dreamland-True-Americas-Opiate-Epid...

This is great ... his life compared to Snowden has been horrid!

On a different note I never bought he wants to be a woman just a PR thing to keep his name, plight and fight in the public eye. Maybe in five years or so his story will be told and we will see him as a him not a woman.

*This is getting downvoted? I'm sure your now aware of fake news which is created to push agendas and or make money. Thus, I don't believe much of what I see and read and this always seemed far-fetch to me and that it was so out there at the time that it was made up by those helping him. It allowed him to fight for transgender rights and remain in the public eye ... what other way could Manning in solitary confinement have maintained his visibility in the public and coral as much help to free him? This was great PR ... from someone who has created fake news and such to benefit their start up!

> On a different note I never bought he wants to be a woman just a PR thing to keep his name, plight and fight in the public eye.

Once again, the information that became public from the military through the trial was that Manning met with a gender counselor about gender dysphoria before collecting and leaking information, much less being in the public eye. This is a fact that is not in dispute.

> This is getting downvoted?

Yes, when you try to spin a completely unsupported fantasy that is inconsistent with the well-documented historical sequence of events to justify misgendering someone, that's not really a valuable contribution to the discussion.

There is literally no reason to believe Chelsea lied about being transgender.

When you consider the current extremely negative views that the U.S military and the average Americans have against transgender people then it would be a terrible strategy to make up such a story.

The Nintendo Wii was innovative and fun .. even the Wii U was a bit innovative and fun (ever play Mario Chase with friends .. worth buying Wii U for). Though... Switch does anyone see anything innovative besides a GameCube like system that is also portable?

The Wii U gets deserved flak for its paucity of titles, but there were some unbelievable gems sprinkled in there. The Nintendo Land pack-in game is an utter blast as a party game. And Mario Maker is probably the first "players build the levels" game whose interface doesn't feel arcane and esoteric, it really is a triumph of friendly UX.

Aaah yes. Nintendo Land is the ultimate party game. As far as my Nintendo Wii U purchase goes, I think all the hours of fun me and my friends had with Nintendo Land was worth the asking price alone. Then of course Mario Kart and Super Smash added some extra competitive and skill based fun for when we tired of Nintendo Land. And for some co-operative fun we had a blast with Rayman Legend, perhaps the best Rayman game to date!

I really have no regrets from buying the Wii U. It was such a good couch console!

Portable is huge. Those controllers are amazing. Portable motion-control party-games that don't need the screen? That sounds amazing for parties and icebreakers.

Get a degree in something fun and teach yourself how to code/build cool digital technology!

That's my path... got a degree in the recording industry: Music Business from a TN state school and worked at labels for a bit before leaving. A few years later I taught myself how to code for one of my startup ideas. Fun startup journeys none monetaryily successful but had a great time riding that rollercoaster and learned an in demand skill.

Now in govt. IT and contracting which is the best place to be professionally/financially on the east coast.
