Wrong, you also need to ask permission before using first-party tracking cookies.

Sometimes I wish software development didn’t pay so exceptionally well. I’m interested in so many other things, but it’s hard to justify switching to another full-time field, knowing it would mean a significant pay cut.

Depending on your locale and position, you may have it backwards. Check out pilot pay in the United States at www.airlinepilotcentral.com

I wish I wasn't medically barred from having a pilot's license. Not for the pay, but I just like the idea of flying. Unfortunately, I cannot. I recommend people use their salaries to learn how to fly regardless! It's maybe ~$15-20k to get a PPL which is doable for the tech crowd with some planning.

I think GP meant some girls outside of software engineering.

I would love to switch (back) to teaching but a 10x pay cut is not doable. Maybe close to retirement I will give it a try.

My heart bleeds.

I don't think they really need to. You can have the base model with the same specs, but let me configure it with a better display. I can currently spec up a Mac Mini without any problem.

The second option is to bring back the MacBook brand for entry level devices and use the Air brand for "Pro" devices that don't require active cooling.

Doesn't matter to me if I still have to buy the chunky Pro to get a decent display.

The current Air is great as an entry level device, but there is an underserved segment here.

I lived in multiple places in Europe and it was the same.

There is a strong difference here: Smartphones are kind of essential to our modern life, game consoles aren't.

I attend 1-3 meetups a month, the recent changes made it unusable for me. They want $10 a month just to check who will be attending. I don't say they should provide everything for free, but that pricing is ridiculous.

> They want $10 a month just to check who will be attending.

Looks like this has been rolled out only recently. That's frustrating to say the least, you want to know who is active and the age/profile of attendees before you'd attend certain events. Or maybe there is someone you want to avoid.

Also yet another app looking a $10 per month subscription for basic features. Outrageous.

I really appreciate HN's simplicity and functional design. I mis one or two features (like unread messages), but I rather have less than a bloatware.

All WizzAir planes have 3-3 seatings.

Half Life was one of the games that has native ports an run fine on OSX before Catalina.

One of the worst things that happen to MacOS is cutting support. Apple really is careless about gaming :(

Apple doesn't care about backwards compatibility at all. Mac software is OS version dependent, and the OS version is hardware dependent, and if you don't have the approved OS and hardware combo then tough luck.

Say what you will about Windows and Microsoft, but they live and breathe backwards compatibility.
