Congrats on the release. Will check the game out.

Curious, what type of numbers you were seeing (downloads and play counts) before getting a bump from Apple?

Pre-bump was mostly pushed through Twitter and a few friends sharing it socially. I wasn't unhappy with the numbers considering it was a soft launch by fresh developers but knew we needed to hit review sites and more to get traction.

After that first week, our paid upgrades were around 8-10% of installs - family, friends, clients, etc.

We tripled our first week's install figure within the first hour or so after Apple put us in the Best New Games list of 100+ countries. Currently relying on Analytics' figures as iTunes' numbers lag, but it looks like about 2% are using the IAP to upgrade.

We're currently seeing 2-3 games started every second though obviously the figure rises and falls depending on time of day in major markets.

Thanks. It's good to compare vs our pay-to-play app. We've been getting consistent downloads and plays and broke into the top 50/100s in some countries over the past week.

Hoping for an Apple bump as well.

I'm interested to see what effect having gameplay videos in the App Store come iOS 8 has. I suspect good pay-to-play games will see an overall boost.

From some of the feedback we've received, not very well.

Definitely an interesting challenge to solve.

The Dots game just solved the color blind problem, http://blog.weplaydots.com/post/92736184749/whats-new-in-two.... Although I am not colorblind so can't speak from experience.

Yup, their solution was our first thought as well. The biggest problem is half our game is about ordering colors based on the color wheel. So Red Orange Yellow.

That doesn't pose the same challenge if that run corresponds to Square, Circle, Triangle. Trying to remember a sequence based on random shapes seems too unrelated. We'll need to do some tests with color saturation most likely.

In the design phase, you could try Skala Preview. I discovered it recently and it works pretty well to mirror your Photoshop work to your phone and also simulate various colour blindness issues.

Yup. I use Sketch and Sketch Mirror, but same concept.

Thanks, Scott.

Both points are great feedback on elements that I think we've struggled with during development by being so close to it.

I think we've overestimated peoples knowledge of the color wheel. The data is certainly showing it to. Scores from our beta rounds were much better than the first couple days. My assumption there is the beta users got used to the color wheel over time. Your idea of a hint during the first view rounds is a great one.

Also, for the challenges, were you only trying to complete the challenge? This is another point that I think users are struggling with. Completing the challenge is a bonus, but it's certainly not the only goal. If the challenge says "Clear 10 sets of 5", you can still clear out sets or runs of 3 until you are blue in the face. Challenges aren't required.

This is my first game published in the App Store and was made with the help of a developer friend, Chris. It's a simple interface but an incredibly challenging game.

Would love to hear feedback. We'll also be doing a post-mortem on our first few weeks in the App Store for those who enjoy that type of thing.

Here are a few promo codes. First come, first serve.

Saving everyone else the time, these are all redeemed. 0.99c, though; not sweating the cost.

This may get a down voted because I'm new to commenting, but I figured adding a comment was better than starting a "Show HN" thread.

My buddy and I created a web/iPhone app that is great for people trying to get fit but struggle doing it because they can't find the motivation. So for those who are motivated by Ryan's story and are looking for additional tools, maybe give it a try.

http://1upfit.com allows you to compete against friends in simple workout challenges. Pushups, pull-ups, running, swimming, etc. We are actually in beta testing right now for tracking a weight loss challenge similar to what Ryan did above. (We both recently completed a slow carb diet, which is very similar.)

Training by yourself or changing dietary habits by yourself can be hard and sometimes you don't have the people around to properly motivate you. My brother is an Ironman but lives in Colorado (I'm in Portland) so it's hard to say "Hey let's go for a run". By using the app though, I can see every time he runs and it motivates me to go out and do it too, for fear of losing a competition to my brother.

I highly recommend you start a Show HN thread for this.

Mexican, even Chipotle will work. Get a burrito bowl. Substitute the rice for more veggies. No tortilla. Beans, veggies, meat, and fresh salsa. It's right in line with most of the diets. Pretty low carbs. I just completed a month of the Slow Carb diet by doing this. Lost 20 lbs.

The salads at Chipotle are also a good choice.

Great idea
