We in the US should thank our lucky stars that massive and endemic corruption which is rampant overseas is not present here in the United States. I have long since lost the idea that the rest of the world will ever modernize and institute the rule of law.

I can't tell if this is sarcastic or not, but I think corruption has taken its toll on the United States. Maybe not to the same extent as other countries, but there is certainly room for improvement.

Some men are joining the MGTOW movement. I’m sure that has some effect.

Reading the comments below, Apple is damned it they do and damned if they don’t.

One should start from the premise that whatever apple are doing is wrong.

They have implemented their strategy of it being cheaper to pay lobbyists, advertising, events and PR than it is to do the right thing. Eg they don't pay their tax but have a much bigger say in making and enforcement of law than any US tax-payer.

Treating their actions with suspicion and hostility until shown without doubt to be benign is the only sensible response to a company that employs these policies. You're paying for the enforcement of their property rights because you pay a big whack of your income in tax, they don't, they mooch off you.

That is the only correct state of affairs for corporations (and governments) as big and powerful as Apple. Constant criticism no matter what they do. It's the only way to hold them even remotely accountable.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted for this. Power is kept in check by criticism and close observation.

If Apple weren't held accountable at all, you can be sure they'd declare themselves a sovereign dictatorship w/ Mr. Cook at the supreme leader (/s of course, but...?).

Is it truly a surprise why I keep being downvoted for pointing out abuses of power by Hacker News's favorite megacorp?

They are so nasty, that no one will trust they have good intentions. Whose fault is that I wonder.

The stock price abides. They'll survive the damnation.

I don’t know. It might be better if Apple controls the repair process. The reason is that my iPhone 11 stores a great deal of information including my Apple Card. I don’t want any of that info getting out into the wild. In addition, the latest cellphones are very complex. The latest iPhone used a 3D circuit board! Who has knowledge and skill to work on that? Look I’m all for people trying to make a living repairing stuff but the cellphone might be an item that falls outside the mean.

1. Apple doesnt repair, they offer replacement. No prior backup? lol you lost all data, have a good day.

>latest iPhone used a 3D circuit board! Who has knowledge and skill to work on that?

2. a 40 year old stay ah home mum? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81whx_7wKHQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjZMWzXyzjU

Plenty of people have the knowledge to repair these things. Apple isn't doing anything so fundamentally different in its designs that professionals outside Apple are incapable of understanding or repairing their devices.

A circuit board is a circuit board. The difficulty of repairing it has more to do with access to it. Apple makes non destructive disassembly quite difficult.

You can use official Apple services if that is your opinion. Should people who disagree be withheld the right to commission completely independent repair?

Yep Tesla is committing an unforced error. Yanking shit from a purchased car is uncool. Since somebody payed for that feature, it has value. Tesla should have cut a check to the present owner for the value of the feature that was being removed. Bad move Tesla.

Focus! Get MCAS squared away and get the plane back in the air. Reading some of these comments here makes me glad that none of us are in charge at Boeing. The comments are unbelievably naive or have huge gaps in business logic or lack technical rigor.

Thankfully none of us on this forum are in charge at Boeing. We would certainly do the wrong thing in response to the MCAS debacle. An observation is that the overall environment is relatively healthy but we must never let the MCAS incident be repeated. Identify why MCAS was so poorly coded and how it passed QC and I think you’ve solved the most pressing issue.

I must warn the young man that girls are far more difficult to fathom than any math equation.
