Capital One is the same. I eventually stopped caring; I know these paper mailings are costing them money. Maybe they'll get the point someday.

An issue is the number of banks now charging you back for paper services. At least one of my banks the fee is now $15/month for paper statements. That's way more than postage.

I'd almost prefer paper statements from a few of my accounts, but not enough to pay for it directly.

You're thinking of now. Proton didn't exist yet the first time they tried Steam OS.

To be fair to Valve though, back then, there was a lot of movement in direct ports for Linux games. Humble Bundle (before they were bought) was spending real money on it and companies like Feral sprang up to help with titles like Mordor. It looked like there was going to be some real change.

But for various reasons the momentum waned. One of those reasons might be the existence of Proton itself. Some people were very against it because they thought it might lead to less native ports.

Oh, right. I completely forgot SteamOS 1 existed, haha.

Which is exactly my point, keeping game studios on Windows + Visual Studio acomplishes nothing in regards to cut the dependency on Windows gaming.

I wouldn't say that. Software support for Linux is a chicken and egg problem. No software because there's no users because there's no software.

Proton helps fix the users part. If a critical mass is accomplished, that can have real long-term impact.

Helps as much as it helped OS/2.

Is that a fair comparison? It seems like people have a compelling reason to use Linux (hardware compatibility, avoiding MS spyware, price, etc). I admit it was before my time, but what was the draw for OS/2? Even it's technical superiority to Windows was gone as soon as NT dropped right?

How many know what that was?

> but a very effective mandate to know what adults use VPNs.

How? I suppose if the VPN services all started requiring age verification that might tell you this info. But I very much doubt that'll happen, as it runs completely counter to many legitimate VPN services' missions.

I'm also curious. I used to be a big supporter of Pine64 but the e-ink tablet and phone debacles have kinda soured me on them.

At first I thought you found a way to control/view the game acoustically and I was very curious how that worked.

But, this probably makes more sense.

What an insightful comment. I've always considered art as something that can't be recreated, as it involves the state of mind the creator was at the time of creating it. I would worry no more about recreating a sound on this synth as I would recreating the exact pitch of an acoustic guitar I made last year.

Your take is obviously a valid one though. I just find it infinitely interesting how there can be so many valid viewpoints about something like this.

That is how many synth users feel as well, that they don't need presets because they'll just create a new sound. Neither approach is invalid as there is no right or wrong way to be creative.

I'm not a professional musician but making patches is something I never knew was fun until I tried it and it immediately became my favorite musical activity. Sitting down with my Minilogue XD and spending and evening just making an ephemeral 16 step sequence is a really great recreation activity that I'd recommend for anyone.

Totally agree. Have you tried VCV Rack? You're welcome/I'm sorry :D

As I'm a software engineer I try to avoid software tools for recreation but it's getting harder and harder and vcv-rack is even on nix package manager. I think I might have to break my rule just this once - thanks!

As a counter curse I recommend strudel.cc back at you :)

I think it’s one of the best pieces of software in existence and I don’t say that lightly. In a perfect world we’d have a magic of box of every modular component to build and rebuild to tinker with the physical controls but in lieu of magic vcv rack plus a midi controller is the next best thing

Strudel is very cool. Possibilities are endless with music tools

I'd say "meh" to VCVRack. Just like you, I got into music production to get away from the computer so I avoid software when I can, I basically only have hardware for production, so I can use my hands and not stare at screens, only do mastering in a DAW.

Like you, many people along the years been telling me that I'll love modular synths, and I should try it out VCVRack to get a taste. So I did, maybe once or twice a year. It never felt fun for me, even one bit. Never sure why.

Then at some point I borrow my friend's modular setup as he was going to play in places where he couldn't bring it, and I finally understood what's so fun about it. The hardware is what makes it fun and relaxing for me, not the concepts themselves, and seemingly for me, they don't translate into the digital realm.

I guess the point is: I'm kind of similar to you and I couldn't get into VCVRack but actual real modular synths are fun as hell. Maybe it's the same for you, so don't lose hope if VCVRack ends up not feeling fun :)

Personally I swing both ways. I love to just with, say, a basic sawtooth wave (honestly that, a little filter, and a basic ADSR gets you To many of the most iconic sounds of the 70s), but I do like presets so when I land in something really special I can snapshot it.

There are forms of art where the "meta" is that the artists are attempting to recreate something exactly the same each time, but in doing so there is always something different (theater, live music, etc). Some art leans towards perfection in recreation and some leans towards the unique.

Professionals are usually good at doing both.

It's "fine". In fact, a lot of the features that Nova pioneered has made its way into the stock launcher.

But it does what it does and that's all. It's been a long, long time since Google believed in the concept of options or customizability. If you want to do something outside the default, well you can go straight to hell. Which is fine, I guess, since we still have great options for launchers out there.

Depends what you want, I guess. The nice thing about Android is we still have many options.

I recently moved to AIO Launcher and I've been really enjoying it. I'm sure it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea though.

I guess it's nice to know getting logged out of my accounts in 5 minutes is just an act of sabotage. Strangely, I'm more okay with that.

Anybody have any experience running this on a tdeck? I'm kinda toying with the idea of ordering a couple just to play with.

It is not yet like meshtastic in that. Rnode is more of a lora modem than a lora server. There is a micro recticlum project but not out yet.

Ahh, yes. I see that now. I appreciate the correction.
