I've seen this many a time. The trick is to come to a stop at the edge, and then walk out. If you are moving any kind of speed, folks on the edge will just assume you are disoriented and give you that "helpful" shove back into the mix.

Its really not that crazy. Its probably 5-6 hrs at a modest speed. Doable if you break it up. If its not too crazy hilly you just need some reasonable fitness and a conditioned rear end.

I'd be more concerned about when your kids figure out the gestures control things.

Luddites were against technology that cost them jobs and made them generally obsolete. They'd weren't simply anti-technology. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luddite

Given that, you may be set in your ways, or have standards that don't match the trends, but I wouldn't say you are a Luddite. (Though, perhaps, you are a deadtree publisher..?)

Oh, yeah, I know what a Luddite is, and yeah, it wasn't the best word choice. I jokingly grasped at the word nearest to my situation - guy-who-doesn't-like-LCDs isn't quite as catchy. :) I'm as tech-savvy as anyone, but I prefer to work/read on standard paper if possible.

(not a deadtree publisher though - just a guy with irritable eyes)

I am with you on the LCD. I was annoyed that B&N went to them. I love e-ink. I swear my eyes sigh with relief when I go from coding to reading it.

I wish that there wasn't the stranglehold on the libraries, so I could get a real selection of epub and the like.

Kindles don't have LCD displays. E-ink is as easy to read as newsprint, at worst.

It is less about equity than it is about tired, damaging stereotyping.

You asked HN news this? Really? Really?

That's why I always tweet 'In closet, with gun' before I leave the house.

Are you sure you're not R. Kelly?

For those of you, including myself, that didn't know what this was a reference to:

"Trapped in the Closet" is an urban opera, R&B opera, or hip-hopera released by contemporary R&B singer R. Kelly in 2005.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trapped_in_the_Closet

It's also a South Park Episode.

http://www.southparkstudios.com/guide/912

which is based on... ?

Oh, right.

Something tells me this is the first time "Trapped in the Closet" has been referenced on HN, congrats sir :)

Something tells me tbgvi is an R Kelly Fan.

I am trapped.

If that were true, then we'd still know when to rob your house : )

Maybe not, perhaps he also tweets 'In closet, with gun' when he's in the closet, with a gun?

Then again, he might also tweet that he is on vacation while sitting on the closet, with gun..

Im guessing the general idea is to brainfuck potential theives into simply choosing a different house without the whole gun/closet conundrum!

Yeah, it's all a cost/benefit analysis. When I'm choosing which house to rob, I always try to decide if it is worth the risk of someone hiding in the closet with a gun.

So far the risk has always too high :)

I think we can all agree to stay out of his closet.
