This is a common misconception, linking socialism with top-down bureaucratic control (what is this passage really is about).

from google define: "a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole."

In my opinion "regulation by the community" is what is important, eg. there are private coops. This regulation is consensus-driven by the workers and people involved, direct action, locality etc.., it's not bad at all, on the contrary you feel more connected.

Although gene-expression and socio-evolution might have a bigger role in selection than the genes itself.

I've got curious when you mentioned infrastructure and years to settle in the market, could you tell/elaborate your product?

Love your zen but do you socialize besides customers? If not is it a trait of yours or you just choose it as the needs of your startup?

I'll share more about the product in two months when I start working on it full-time and can spend more time crafting the message I want, though it's quite tempting to do it now.

It seems to be just how I am, I don't think about it much. Though if I were a few hours north in Silicon Valley I'd likely spend more time socializing with like-minded people. Whether that'd be productive or not depends on the people (or me?) as it seems most meetups/conferences are a waste of time and most people really don't do anything, they just like thinking and talking about it. Unfortunately, wearing the jersey doesn't make you part of the team.

I really believe that you're the average of the people you spend the most time with, so I limit my time with people I don't look up to. Unfortunately, now the only practical way to spend time with people I look up to is by reading books and listening to Mixergy and other interviews and podcasts. But from that standpoint, I have an incredible circle of friends and mentors. There is so much information out there just waiting to be consumed and our brains have incredible plasticity, they change based on their diet.

If you subscribe to the idea that you're a representation of those you spend the most time with, I think that many forget that when you read and respond to comments on HN and other places, you're spending time with those people. Is it making you better? Avoiding extensive interaction with any one community limits group think and blinders. Homogeneity makes us think small without even realizing it, imagine sitting in a dark room with a candle vs. a light bulb.

I'm pretty hard on myself in terms of achievement, fitness, and productivity, but I've learned I can be hard on others (including my wife) and judgmental to an extent, so I try to avoid such situations. I've also learned that I'm hard on people because I care and I believe they're capable of more, something I've channeled into my current startup which essentially has the purpose of making businesses better.

I don't blog or use Twitter/Facebook/whatever much either, which saves a lot of time. I think this thread is an example. I rarely share my thoughts, but when I do explaining them is time consuming. I don't mind, but I do feel guilty that I'm not doing something else. It's smart to be ruthless with your time; it's really all you have.

As a single founder this sort of independence has really worked for me, but then again I guess we'll see what happens after a few years when I have some experience under my belt. I've learned so much about the startup world in the past year, but it always surprises me how much I still have to learn. Good thing I'm always hungry.

Attachment and insecurity issues can be greatly improved with psychedelic induced trips (with safe setting). If mushrooms, ayahuasca or similars are very hard to get(in my country it's hard) holotropic breathwork is reported to have similar effect, although can't reinforce that.

This message is more like to anyone with attachment issues, I've just read your brother is 13 years old so mehh, don't know.. Safe bet that he is not mature enough, haven't read anything about what are the hazards when adolescents take it.

I'll get right on that and recommend that to my parents. :P It is interesting the recent research on psychotropics, though.

Meditation, which takes a longer route to the psychedelic states, can also help and has less stigma attached to it. Something to consider at least.

By its very nature, the practice (such as Vipassana) involves not becoming attached to rising stimulus, on a moment-to-moment basis. I can tell you from personal experience, someone who is habituated to be sensitive like your brother, will have a difficult time with this. Further, there's nothing you can do to make your brother do this practice.

The thing about well-guided mushroom and Ayahuasca experiences is such that you learn what it is like to not be sensitive to arising stimuli, and as such, seek out practices like this. (Though there are other things going on too). If you are serious about looking into using psychedelics for therapy (possibly when your brother is older), it may be something to do together rather than throwing your brother out into the void.

For Vipassana Meditation I recommend "Mindfulness in Plain English". You can find it online. It's an incredibly good book to begin meditation at all.

Second this, graphics-driver is an issue under Mint. Apart from this the E335 is wonderful.

Isn't there something other in the background, like you don't like programming, and these higher topics just suddenly present themselves as the escape route?

With either yes or no, if you can afford you might consider taking off 1 or 2 years, moving to a cheap country and erudite yourself(online courses, books - but hell no to college) or just exploring stuff.

Porn can create/maintain different thinking patterns, underhabituate you for normal real-life cues. By withdrawing and resensitizing your dopamine circuits you might jumpstart your motivation, getting more fun and getting out of the rut. Shouldn't expect a miracle but may worth a try.

good luck!

Ditch doctors (at least the majority), and medication. Read about glutene intolerance and possible connections. Take omega-3 supplements and stop glutene+dairy. Possible that it's just bullshit and won't work, otherwise effects after 30days. Worst case you just become slim and fit.

"Mindfulness in Plain English" is very concise but still touch tangentially interesting "why" questions.

A stronger version of this problem is the speculations about the "age of mass robotization".

As robots become more and more general-intelligent with cheap maintenance costs, creating their specific "inner robot market", they will drive the costs of many human labour/service forms even lower making many current human-oriented job obsolete.

Without egalitarian welfare solutions, such as basic income, we are very much fucked.
