China exporting its culture to the world.

Since you've ignored our many requests to stop doing nationalistic flamewar on Hacker News, I've banned this account. If you don't want to be banned, you can email hn@ycombinator.com and give us reason to believe that you'll follow the rules in the future.

Maybe you don't owe a country better, but you owe this community considerably better if you want to post here.

I'll assume you know better than I, but while browsing the past few weeks of that account's comments I didn't see any "nationalistic flamewar" talk. Just a few mentions of Chinese authoritarianism and the stiffing of dissent and open discourse.

...oh.

Maybe in order for it to fully make sense, you have to understand that we'd warned that account four times already, as well as some other things that aren't public.

But even apart from that, there is a litany of comments that broke the site guidelines. It's not like these were hard to find:

This is the same thing China is doing, except China is also lying about it and saying they have "contained" it with extreme quarantine, in part to trick other nations into doing the same thing to tank their economies while China is going back to work and letting the virus spread.

Good for UK to step up amidst hysteria. Hopefully other democratic nations will follow suit.

Do you have a source for that?

https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus has some excellent information.

This article does explicitly discuss pre-symptomatic transmission, specifically it being worse than SARS but better than flu in that regard.

There's no shortage of test kits, there's a shortage of PCR lab capacity to process those samples.

Masks and ventilators would be a good thing to donate though.

There are antibody test kits as well.

Better yet, teach elders how to buy groceries online.

That works as far as it goes. The problem that we're starting to see is empty shelves. While at the store recently, I saw one of the store shoppers looking at an empty shelf muttering "I don't even know what to substitute here..."

What's wrong with having a public / private partnership?

Nothing, but I didn't tune into the President announcing a National Emergency to have him call up the CEO's of these companies, SHAKE ALL THEIR HANDS and let them speak like an infomercial. I was hoping there would be talk about how they would be protecting the vulnerable and what people should be doing.

> SHAKE ALL THEIR HANDS

Nit, but he only shook a couple. Certainly, the majority did not receive handshakes

I apologize for the rhetoric. It was 7 handshakes.

Rewatching the stream, I count 4 [0].

Nothing IMO. Parading out 15 Executives to give them each 30 seconds at the podium in order to praise dear leader on the other hand looks pathetic though.

The "partnership" is some donated parking spaces.

Mostly just the irony of using Socialism as a scapegoat repeatedly and then nationalizing some of the virus effort.

Of course, he'll never say it was socialism - just "strong action".

He misread it, watch the video.

Unacceptable

1. Tell the labs to report COVID19 cases as "seasonal flu"

2. Stop reporting cases to unblock quarantine and travel restrictions

3. Economy back to work while rest of the world is trying to quarantine

4. Virus runs a course through the whole country and kills 30 million "expensive" old people with comorbidities, yielding a huge win against a long-term existential threat associated with ageing population.

Win-win for CCP, as far as they are concerned.

If I'm a poor student without a place to go I can imagine being quarantined in your dorm room with WiFi is not so bad at all.

That's not an option.
