I am reallllyyyy not comfortable with revealing my real identity on sign-up to a new website. It admits me to consequence in a lawless zone, full of wankers, that never forgets.
Also, I google everybody, whether because I am reviewing your cv, or because you are a friend of a friend. Facebook connect is a definite no-no.
The problem with the likes of friend.ly is that it forces me to use the email address associated with Facebook and it's PITA if you use multiple email accounts / filters for multiple purposes
The problem is nothing is editable (full name, birthday, location, email -- ok, they can have gender). If I'm signing up for some brand-new, unknown service, I'm usually not inclined to divulge anything more than an email address with an alias (+newsite@gmail.com).
You might want try out our service (Spockly.com) to tackle this problem: it allows you to limit your sign up form to email (& password) and get the basic info like age, gender, location from us. So sign up is straightforward, but you still get some insight about your users. Of course, it only works with people who have public profiles on social networks.
At the begining it's would be apps that we love or for which we obtained a special deals (free for 24hours for example). But yes we hope to personnalize our recommandations quickly !
AppsTxt is our last project. As iPhone users we wanted a new way to discover apps on the store and benefit from discounts on great apps. We used Free Apps a Day but we are not fan of the idea of installing a new app to get new apps. Also we forgot most of the time to open it and judge that it doesn't deserve to have notifications ON.
We thought about text message. How we can open them easily and switch to something else fast. So we put together AppsTxt.com .
Starting Monday, you will receive a direct link to download free apps, on which we've negotiated cool deals we have with friend-apps! Until then we would love to gather your feedback on the idea and your suggestions. Of course feel free to register, I guarentee you that we will NEVER spam you.
I was wondering why you would chose SMS over a notification system. So many advertising companies have tried using SMS, that ads asking for my phone number have gained a bad stigma (for me, at least!).
But, in reality, I have unlimited messaging, and the ability to block messages from specific users. I really have no reason to feel this way anymore.
I'm going to try it out. Thanks for commenting here!
they are red pro , they will be fine, the real risk is for middle/high stakes grinders who dont have the same relationship with the big sites and as OP said risk to have their money freeze for some time (a US player is already reporting on 2+2 that he cant withdraw his money from FT)
it's happening quite often that big poker sites have some of their funds confiscated. Usually they dont communicate about it and just change the payment provider they use to collect US money.
Producteev (http://producteev.com ) has been around for a couple of months and really solid alternative IMHO, cross platform, free for individuals, and moving fast! We are very happy with it!
