Hey everyone, I’ve always been the kind of person who starts too many ideas and rarely finishes one. But this time I actually saw it through.
Four months ago, I had this weird little thought during an awkward social moment — “What if I could just trigger a real phone call to get out of this?”
That thought became Comforto — an app that gives you a real phone call when you need one: • A friendly voice to calm you before a big interview or class • A believable excuse to leave an uncomfortable situation • Or just someone to “call” when you’re feeling anxious or alone
I had zero experience with voice agents when I started. I broke things constantly. Apple rejected my first two submissions.
But after endless debugging and a few sleepless nights… it’s live.
I’m not expecting it to blow up or anything, but I’m proud it exists. If it helps even one person feel a little safer, calmer, or more in control — that’s enough.
If you’ve ever launched something after months of uncertainty, you probably know that quiet, surreal feeling when it finally goes live. That’s where I’m at right now.
Totally fair — it’s not something everyone would need. What I’ve found is some people (especially women, or folks dealing with social anxiety) feel much safer or more in control when they can trigger a real, short, believable call. Think of a scenario a creep following a woman walking alone, creepy taxi driver? They would feel safer triggering a call.
That’s the angle I’m exploring with ComfortCall — not fake conversations, but genuine, on-demand interruptions that give you an out when you need one.
That’s a great point — confidence definitely helps in the long term, and I agree that “nobody really cares” is often the truth. But in the moment, it’s interesting how many of us still reach for a hack (post-it notes, fake calls, excuses).
What I’m curious about is whether a tool that makes those “outs” easier/less awkward could actually reduce stress for people who struggle in the moment. Almost like training wheels for confidence.
Your story about holding up a “Call Me” note actually makes me think this instinct has always been there — we’re just modernizing it.
My daughter has a psychology degree, and always recommends a therapist. So I won't speculate on how to gain self-confidence, or the value of gadgets to help in the near term. It does take time.
The office gag wasn't social. It was just fatigue. I guess there always were and will be situations where we need an exit. FWIW, I am retired and living alone in the boondocks, and have too few interactions, so consider the value of just being in the people world. I plan to move, to be closer to family and friends. Most are over 50 miles away. I might run into one of those hasty exits. Right now, my excuse would be "I have a long drive (I do) and want to get home before dark"
Of course, I've had many years to make excuses, most of which were/are valid. Oops, I've got to go to the pharmacy/hardware store before it closes!
That’s a great point — I totally get that typing out expenses on a touchscreen every time isn’t realistic for most people.
The core idea behind what I’m building is that it’s voice-first. You just open the app, tap the mic, and say something like “Spent 250 on chai” or “Paid 12,000 for rent yesterday.” It uses GPT on the backend to parse that and log it.
The goal is to make it feel as effortless as sending a quick voice note.
That said, I love your idea of having a quick-access number pad + category buttons as an alternative. Could be great for when you’re in a rush or want to log multiple expenses fast.
And yeah, syncing with banks would be ideal, but pretty tough to pull off across all providers — especially here in India. A TSV/CSV import option sounds like a solid workaround for now. Definitely noting that.
Really appreciate your input — this kind of feedback is exactly what I need at this stage.
Nobody’s gonna dictate all their financial transactions into an app.
Why not use something like Plaid, like the mature companies in this space (rocket money, mint, empower etc)

Please give it a try and let me know how was your call experience https://apps.apple.com/in/app/comforto-anxiety-relief-calls/...

Anyway, just wanted to share that small win.
