Global Forest Watch is a dynamic platform that’s changing the future of forest monitoring. We use machine learning and expert analysis to distill satellite imagery, crowdsourced information, and hundreds of open datasets into actionable insights and policy-relevant information about forests worldwide. Our stack uses Elasticsearch to store and query large datasets, Hadoop to pre-calculate tree cover totals within global administrative boundaries, and AWS Lambda to tabulate statistics on raster datasets for user-drawn areas of interest.
