The NotebookLM voice sounds more like Kai Ryssdal to me.

I find hyperbolic comments on recommendation threads, e.g. "I can't believe no one has mentioned <blah> yet", to be quite annoying. Every item recommended on this thread is going to be "first" when it's first recommended. Trying to rocket your suggestion to the top of the pile by suggesting it's self-obviousness doesn't mean it's a better suggestion than any others.

I hate to tell them but everything is being enshittified.

"Not me," said entropy, "I was already there at the outset."

Less cutely, this is an interesting topical site/newsletter => https://selfh.st

Current "AI" is the manual washboard.

The Book of Dragons by Edith Nesbit is listed instead of "the Dragon book"

I thought this was "the Dragon Book" Compilers: Principles, Techniques, and Tools

by Aho, Lam, and Sethi

https://www.amazon.com/Compilers-Principles-Techniques-Tools...

I prefer the first edition by Aho, Sethi and Ullman, which I own twice (single volume hardcover and two-volume softcover German translation).

The "modernized" version leaves out some fundamental parsing material.

Same with Ezra Kline's "Abundance" vs. John Green's "An Abundance of Katherines." But I kinda like swapping in John Green—"Everything is Tuberculosis" was a good read for me this year.

Volunteer Fire Departments = Amish Barn Raising

If it was truly AI I think people would be less dismissive.

The ole DEIA font.

The US also has "waiting lists and rationed care".
