Seems to me almost like a defensive line, with small breaks to allow limited passage and to funnel attackers into a known spot. I would guess that what has been found inside of the ‘holes’ was due to air blown distribution of trade goods being carried through the region.

Thank you for that, I only dug out the HN discussion, having read the article back when it was on the front page. Weird that the link changed like that!


Not a problem!

It took an embarrassing long time reading through the article, waiting for the pivot to ‘Russian Smiling’, only to realize by almost the very end, that clearly, I had been hoodwinked.

Linking the proper article after this endeavor seemed appropriate to save others the same grief.


Two benefits of a screen:

-Better brightness, contrast, color, etc.

-Screen border edge contrast with surrounding wall gives better ‘outlining’ to the picture, helping focus.


Keep in mind, the barrels where the liquor is stored, are not airtight, and results in annual losses. Holding is actually losing in this case.
