You would think Digital Ocean being a cloud hosting provider they could do email themselves, secure customer data and not provide it to third parties. Great write up though.

I would not think that because cloud hosting and email delivery are very different problems to solve.

Didn’t cable have a similar business model. Charge + Ads. They’ve probably modelled out the amount they would $ gain vs customer loss from adding ads.

Does cable have an ad free tier? This for me is the advantage Netflix has. Tempt people in with a cheap (or even free) ad supported tier and then offer the chance to upgrade to an ad free experience. Similar to YouTube Premium.

HBO and Showtime are the only “ad-free cable” that come to mind. Hulu has an ad-free tier but it’s really only a mostly ad-free tier.

Still does. Both OG cable and the cable-for-cordcutters streaming TV offerings like Hulu with Live TV, YouTube TV, etc. (even if the latter doesn't happen to sell their own ads, they are still charging for access to ad-loaded streams.)

For what it’s worth in regards to good sleep, a good mattress goes a long way not expensive but one right for you. There’s many types.

You can buy stainless steel straws. Reusable too.

Those aren’t very pleasant in iced drinks.

Rely on a SaaS, complain then don’t have BCP/DR yourself . Huh

yah, it's interesting our org is in the middle of a big debate around BCP/DR where cloud migration is presented as a no-brainer solution that obviates need for DR. Maybe not?

Mobs have been around forever before computers. Throughout all of human history. Looking at it from a positive view, at least people aren’t stoned to death anymore.

To scale whole population could just do ultra-sound for colon Polyps + CRP blood test. Then go from there.

Ultrasound is not a useful imaging modality for anything in the GI tract. Most countries do have FOBT screening available

to avoid reverse proxy, dynamic dns to access servers at home, maybe try tailscale to achieve same thing

For most using HN, the standard of living is likely better than all the pharaohs and kings of the past by a considerable margin. Gratitude is important, all the rest is relative.
