Montessori schools seem ideal. But this looks like a bogus site. There's practically no content here. He even has Larry & Sergey mixed up.

Yeah, site looks totally bogus. Jeff Bezos is mentioned in the headline, but not in the "article". The sentence structure is horrible. I think that the part, "Having been friends since childhood ..." is supposed to mean that Larry and Sergey were friends from childhood. If so, that's wrong, at least according to Google: "Larry Page and Sergey Brin were not terribly fond of each other when they first met as Stanford University graduate students in computer science in 1995." (http://www.google.com/corporate/history.html)

Maybe the author considers grad school to be part of childhood :)

Could this site be the result of a poorly paid PR firm for Montessori?

Also, the photos are currently mislabeled. (Brin and Page are reversed.) I expect the author will fix this at his own pace.

Yeah, I kind of agree. Site looks totally bizarre. Steven Levitt(freakonomics) has also mentioned somewhere that schooling and (obesseive)parenting are somewhat irrelevant in one's success (to some degree, at least).

I saw something in print about them last night and just googled "sergey larry montessori" today to find this page. There are other pages farther down the search results that seem better researched, but the basic idea is still that Montessori gave them freedom to explore interests.

One additional thing in another article is that Montessori let Sergey learn at his own pace, important when he was first learing English:

There's a 20-minute video here, with a synopsis that credits Montessori with inspiring the 20% time idea:

Many pages repeat the "friends since childhood" line for whatever reason.

Go running.

That's probably when the ad is the most useful, because they can get you to buy it sooner. It's a pretty good deal for VW if a few cents' worth of internet ads can cause you to make a $20k purchase a month sooner.

GK was right not to invest in someone so unscrupulous as to write a blog post afterward, spinning the encounter to make him look bad.

I agree, the only interesting thing about that article is that it serves as a good example for inappropriate behavior (referring to the blogging, not the meeting).

Posted on Scribd due to nasty ads on original site.

Can't you copyright a number? If you can copyright text, why not digits?

Because as far as we know, an arbitrary sequence of digits will eventually show up in the decimal expansion of pi. So if you can copyright a number, anyone who can calculate pi is a criminal.

But any sequence of text can be represented as a number, given a suitable encoding. And that number will show up in the decimal expansion of pi somewhere. So clearly, text should not be copywritable either.

I think I need to link to "What Colour are you bits?" ( http://ansuz.sooke.bc.ca/lawpoli/colour/2004061001.php ) again, just because the issue is so confused. Basically, it boils down to humans' conception of reality being incorrect, so things like authorship are assumed, even though there's no unforgeable way to represent them in reality.

Even worse, pi contains a (binary) program that hacks DRM, so Mother Nature is with us!

dupe; currently on the front page

I think it's the former: we're not like other people.

Nice looking page, but surely the peak of users is not at intermediate. In my experience most users are beginners.
