Humans have been doing agriculture for 10's of 1000's of years. Simply stating, "Well, that just has to go, period." without explanation (and then moving on from there) is cute, and ridiculous.
We're basically tapped out in terms of arable land usage; you should look at the numbers some time, they are alarming (I recommend the FAO's "Livestock's Long Shadow"). Meanwhile, the energy budget of the planet exceeds by many orders of magnitude what is required to satisfy the meager energy needs of humans. What we need to do is stop dispersing our energy consumption through soil, plant matter, cow intestines, etc., before it gets to humans.
They are not good guys. They might be good guys in their personal life, but hiring someone from outside the country, letting them cut ties, and then laying them off immediately is not something a "good guy" does.
They are not developers - they have no rights to write commit and promote code but they are good enough at reading it to not be helpless when something breaks down and they need to take a peek what has changed recently in the codebase and stuff like that.
I on the other hand have no admin rights (only read access) but I know enough of out network and ops structure to be able to make an educated guess when something is behaving strange.
So if it hits the fan they could probably patch an emergency bug and I could fire up some VM instance. It is not about wearing a lot of hats, but being able quickly to put on a new one if needed.
Sticking Fact: in front of something doesn't make it true.
Living your best life, and achieving your own goals, doesn't mean ignoring everyone else in the world's well-being (for most values of "your own goals" and "your best life").
