It's a good start. Would be nice to add a gradually increasing tax on multiple home purchases, e.g. buying a third home has a 5% tax, 4th 15% tax, fifth 25%, and if you want a sixth home you have to build it yourself. Would prevent regular people from buying up dozens of homes to rent.

Changing the excessively huge (and probably financially needed) capital gains deduction for selling a home and buying a new one to only work if you literally buy new construction - would probably spur something.

Existing stock would be depressed in value as the pool of buyers would be smaller, but they'd be more likely to be first time buyers anyway (no capital gains to deal with) and demand for new would increase.

But you could end up with insane inversions where existing stock was pulled down to build new to take advantage of the gains exclusion.

It should be much more punishing from the 4th home like 45%. One can understand 2/3 homes, e.g., one to live in and the rest as investment for retirement income. More than that is just greed. Also, if you don't live in one of your properties, either sell one to keep the total number within 3 or pay additional tax.

if you allow each person to have 1-2 investment homes then you have the exact same problem but now it's decentralised and more people (more voters) benefit from the problem continuing to worsen

I mean that can be adjusted/tightened - you can say one to live in and one for rental and that's it. Other factors like other investment income etc can also be part of the criteria.

Statistically, we're most likely to be born when the world population is at its peak.

Unnoticable meaning doesn't have any effect at all, or just no bad side effects?

I’ve been on 15mg (the highest dose) of Zepbound for the past six months. As of right this second I’ve lost 74 pounds since September 2024 when I switched to Zepbound after having a terrible experience with Ozempic/Wegovy and gaining from 260-308.

I notice no ill effects, I just had my three month checkup with the doctor and he thinks I’m good on maintenance mode at max dose, I’ve still got about 34 pounds as my total weight loss goal. Really an ideal case.

For my wife on the other hand she just has constant diarrhea which she blames on the drug, and is only on 5mg. She also gets headaches from the medicine. She’s lost only 20 pounds, even though she needs to lose another 120 or so to be “healthy weight”.

However, before she started taking Zepbound she was only able to walk a few hundred feet at a time, because her back hurt so terribly. The anti inflammatory “side effects” she’s experiencing have massively improved her quality of life, even without huge amounts of weight loss.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife's issues with it. My experience was completely the opposite. Since glp-1s slow gastric emptying they've completely ameliorated my IBS-D. It's been marvelous

I'm on 2.5mg and I just got sulfur burps, which, to me, is the worst side-effect of the lot. I've also gotten terrible diarrhea previously, even on the lowest dose, I've started and stopped it around five times. Hopefully fifth time's the charm, but yes, side-effects very much depend on the person. I have friends on 10mg and 15mg and they're fine.

As in I cannot identify anything wrong with me most of the time while on them.

I have 2 measurable ones on Zepbound.

My lowest sleeping heart rate is now at least 10 beats higher than before starting (it comes down during the week to about 10 over)

The night after taking the injection my sleep is crap, and the heart rate is 5+ higher again

I have lost 20lbs since mid March with no real effort, and we’re about to do some blood tests for specific cholesterol numbers, which was one of the reasons to try this out.

Just in terms of bad side effects. Hunger was still suppressed. (Might be worse on the higher doses, I'm not on a very high dose.)

Why would that be a 'bad' side effect? Isn't that the whole point of the medication?

Parent is not saying hunger supression is a bad side effect, they just clarify that the difference in noticabeality talked about a few comments up refers to the bad ones - but the good one's remain the same.

Below the baseline of individual variance.

Like if your stomach really hated taco bell and you start taking a pill and now you get the same effect from artificial sweeteners you don't care because you're still within what's normal.

That's the level of side effects these things have.

In our case, sold to the bidder who gave kickbacks to the district supervisor.

we had pepsi machines in my middle school because the pepsi distributor in town "donated" a new score board.

There's really only one alternative, Bing. Virtually all the other western search engines are using the Bing api, and just slightly modify the results.

Technically Yandex has it’s own index, although there’s debate on whether Eastern Europe counts as western in this context

I use Kagi ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Which uses Bing as its primary index

Source? I don't see any mention of that here: https://help.kagi.com/kagi/search-details/search-sources.htm...

Search "chili recipes" on bing. Now search kagi or any other alternative search engine. They all show the exact same recipes because they're using the bing API.

Just gave this a try, and the results were very different for me.

What would you recommend for billions of embeddings?

We've used Pinecone for a while (and it definitely "just worked" up to a certain point), but we're now actively exploring Google's Vertex Search as a potential alternative if some of the pain points can't be mitigated.

> Last year, Ford filed a patent for an in-car advertising system that would use the car’s speakers and display screen to serve ads to drivers and passengers

I've owned Ford stock for 10 years, I think I'll finally sell it today

Would you be willing to share more about how you guys did click ranking at Blekko? It's an interesting problem.

"The law banning TikTok, which was scheduled to go into effect Sunday, allows the president to grant a 90-day extension before the ban is enforced, provided certain criteria are met"

Sounds like they're operating within the law

From the ruling:

"The Act permits the President to grant a one-time extension of no more than 90 days with respect to the prohibitions’ 270-day effective date if the President makes certain certifications to Congress regarding progress toward a qualified divestiture."

Sounds like he needs to work with Congress on at least a basic level for this to be within the law, not just make his own decision and declare all is good. And there is the small detail that he is not President, at least not today.

TikTok has already received multiple "interest to acquire" letters, including the one from Perplexity that would keep all existing investors fully intact.

Having that along with a republican majority in both the congress and the senate this isn't going to be difficult for Trump to fulfill the requirements of the law.

That is not enough to satisfy all 3 certification requirements as required by this law.

Do you get the impression that the incoming administration cares about the law?

As long as there is a fig leaf/smokescreen, and TikTok makes the right noises and contributions, they’ll be fine.

If anything, Keeping them technically in violation of the law is the leverage the administration will want to keep so they can squeeze TikTok whenever they want.

The law never required that they shut down, so in a tautological sense they are.

However, with regards to the absurd justification. The president (still Biden) hasn't granted any extensions, nor is the president even able to grant an extension without

> certif[ing] to Congress that-

> "(A) a path to executing a qualified divestiture has been identified with respect to such application;

> "(B) evidence of significant progress toward executing such qualified divestiture has been produced with respect to such application; and

> "(C) there are in place the relevant binding legal agreements to enable execution of such qualified divestiture during the period of such extension.

There is no evidence that Trump will be able to lawfully do any of those, and he has to do all, after he becomes president again.

> "(A) a path to executing a qualified divestiture has been identified with respect to such application;

> There is no evidence that Trump will be able to lawfully do any of those once he becomes president,

He can buy or be gifted a partial ownership stake?

"Qualified divestiture" means "no longer being controlled by a foreign adversary."

Minority or even majority ownership change isn’t enough as long as the CCP still has control.

ByteDance has been rather vocal that they aren't interested in divesting like that. He could be, there is no evidence he will be, and it's not something he can cause to happen.

Isn't selective enforcement in general within any law in the United States? There are plenty of laws that get broken all the time and it's up to police & prosecutors/AGs to decide which cases they actually want to enforce.

He has to kinda gesture towards in-progress plans to comply with the law to grant that exception, but that's not a huge hurdle.

It's just scraping Google. The results are identical to Google's.

Most search engines use similar algorithms, so it's natural for the results to be somewhat similar. However, the key concern is whether they are prioritizing ads over content value, and as far as I’ve used lexy, they are doing pretty well, especially considering they are newly starting.

They're literally scraping Google on the backend and returning the results to the user as if they invented a new search engine. The links are exactly identical to Google's, in the same order.

obv they will be identical that is what i have explained you above main thing is providing what you want , eg if you search for dogs every search engine will show you a dog , you cant expect it to show extraketchup hotdog just because its new search engine

:) Lexy integrate Google
