App which loads content from cloud infrastructure launches slower and uses more computing resources than a text editor which loads local content. Oh gosh, such exiting and not obvious conclusion. This discovery will push the entire industry forward.
I agree that Electron apps are not enough resource efficient but I don't remember them promoting this. CS is always a trade-off, in this case you get cross-platform app for less efficiency. If you're not agree with that, send the email to WhatsApp PM team and try to convince them that they need N times more dev teems, N times more QAs (where N is number of platforms) and spend N times more $$$ on them all to make you happy. Btw, try to imagine how long it's gonna take to build a feature in such environment.
The author lives in Wonderland where you can compare whatever you want and where A is worse than B just because the numbers says so, without any justifications.
Yeah I noticed this too. That was a completely unfair comparison, and if the author of this article is a decent engineer, then he has to know how egregiously bad faith that comes across. The author won't have support from a lot of people after two mistakes:
1. He's published the article under his native Mac app's blog, which he has every incentive to do and for that reason is biased.
2. Comparing a local text editor to an app that loads tons of rich media content from one of the busiest servers in the world discredits the argument in a major way
