Why can’t msft just remove all the asshole from its OS. They would crush this war.

These polls are self selecting. People round here aren’t into polls generally (evidenced by that the feature is largely unknown) and probably rarely respond to them. An exception to that is when the poll positives speak directly to something you care deeply about and identify strongly with. On top of that people who are going through this may be inclined to share not least because it’s always comforting to those going through an issue to know that they aren’t alone.

In sum, this poll is more an opportunity to share and participate in discussion about this issue than it is about determining the proportion of hn readers who are dealing with this issue

I hope you are right or there is something very broken with us as a group.

I did my part: I read the article. I still have zero clue as to how evaluate whether any particular call will warrant this new or the previous, alternative approach.

It’s very much a self selecting poll.

I didn’t see the actual study but wonder how much this actually speaks to the likelihood of a new marriage staying whole. The graph states that the figure is x divorces per thousand marriages so far so good. But they also say that the rate of marriages is also declining which seems to indicate that the proportion of old marriages to new marriages per thousand is rising in which case at least some of the divorce rate decline may be because a survivor bias embedded in the older marriages?

I downvoted you because I am insulted by your being insulted by his attitude while being insulted. (I didn’t really downvote you)

That’s 51/40 in favor of spending more over those 8 years and in 2012 SF wasn’t frugal. Some increase is justified but not more than 1 to 1.

This is the best example of “speaking from experience” I’ve ever read.

The question how representative are you of the general homeless population in SF. I would guess not much. Am I wrong?

No, you are not wrong. I am not at all representative of the general homeless population in SF. I doubt anyone is. The homeless is probably one of the most diverse of any classifiable group in San Francisco. People are homeless for numerous reasons, and I bet any similarity you find is only superficial.

Note that I never considered my self homeless. My 1981 VW vanagon—which we named Sunny—was a plenty good home for me. It was the first home I bought with my partner and we had a really good life in it. We would have stayed in it longer if it wasn’t so difficult to immigrate into the USA. But I know—and understand why—many people consider that homelessness.

Do you realize that a tax paying citizen would have to pay a pretty hefty fee if they parked anywhere for an emergency?

Street parking everywhere because parking garages are being converted into affordable homes for people who can’t afford to live in one of the most expensive zip codes in the USA.

Homeless people who park their RVs and vans in public parks and open spaces are removing them from public consumption for those who paid taxes to maintain these spaces and commons.

Excellent point
