Can somebody provide some context for the video?

It's incredible to see how many of the concepts in this video is still present in a modern user interface.

The voice is Alan Kay who lead the invention of the modern day Desktop computer / GUI. The system is probably a prototype of the Dynabook, a laptop / tablet for children.

The code is Smalltalk which Alan and team created while inventing Object Oriented programming.

You can play with Squeak, which is the modern version of this system.

That is so corny.

"Questions for the women of HN"

There are women here?!

Icon fonts have always been kind of a hack. SVG is the right formats for many reason - the primary reason: it's XML. We just need better browser support.

Nice to see Draw.io using our API for images :-)

And superb service it is too, the 301 to https did catch us out though.

Top idea we've had for a feature is the ability to include our own icons in the global search, but with priority.

Alternatively, we could just add them to your system :).

Subscriptions.

Are you sure? They don't seem to mention subscription pricing on http://bufferapp.com/

I can't verify that myself since I don't want to link their app to my linkedin.

Scroll down and there is a link to plans: http://bufferapp.com/awesome

$19/month

We have posted a video version of the talk (slides + audio): http://blog.iconfinder.com/staying-sane-while-defying-joel-s...
