I have advice for this CEO too, but I like not being flagged :)

Thanks to what Microsoft did to Github, I moved to Gitlab. So I doubt I will ever take advice from a CEO, never mind this person. FWIW, most CEOs come out of marketing, so that alone tells you how much he really knows about development.

I had added a 2nd disk on my 386sx, but I guess it was after the DOS 5.0 time. I did not realize before v5 it was not allowed.

Not long afterwards I ended up on Coherent OS, fun times.

Verg good read

Linked there is also a related article from 1985

Boo Hoo, Apple not doing AI. To me not doing AI is a major plus.

If the democrat stops hiding and fight, maybe Trump can be stopped

Well something needs to be done about malaria. Since there is no hope in solving Climate Change, seems malaria and other disease are slowing heading north.

I remember reading some nasty mosquito diseases already landed in Florida and Southern Texas. And seems malaria use to be as far north as NH.

So, if work does not start soon, malaria could cover a decent area of the US. Of course we know the politicians will completely ignore this threat and some may even say it is no worse than the common cold. Just look at the progress on Climate Change, if decent work was done on that 30+ years ago, it would have solved lots of potential issues.

All I need is the trackpoint, I would never consider buying a laptop without one.

I just checked, config option --with-x-toolkit=motif still works with 30.1

In a way I would be surprised if motif is removed, I think FSF still wants to support proprietary UN*X and for that you really need to support motif.

FWIW, lucid and athena is still allowed too.

I checked because a person in LQ/Slackware always recompiles Emacs with motif support. He/She would have complained in the group if motif was removed :)

>I think it's a shame it never carried over to QT or GTK+

Same here, but we know why. NIH Syndrome, or people did not realize how great it worked so they did their own thing, making things far more complicated then necessary.

I remember that time period, people were begging Motif/CDE to open up the source. Back then if that happened, many people would have jumped in and fixed a lot of issues. Now is a far different time :(

There was LessTif but it was incomplete, altough a good chunk of tools could run with it. DDD for instance.

Yes it is rising and how would one stop it ? In reality there is no way to stop it outside of what the article recommends. Plus this also applies to many other labor intensive industries.

People who work in these industries want to be paid and deserve to be paid enough to live on, so the money needs to come from somewhere.

Lets pretend a way is found to make things real cheap, doing that means many people will not be able to purchase other items, thus harming the bottom line of many other industries.

Add to that the very rich is hording wealth. It seems today's economic society is racing to a big crash, unless a way is found to release that wealth to subsidize these activities. I think the wealth is there, but it is locked up by the very rich.
