Replace "AI" with "post-industrial capitalism" and suddenly all this fear mongering seems insignificant.

- dozens of horrific 0days cves every year because not enough is invested in security, making private virtually impossible

- credit card required to install free apps such as the "private" Signal messenger

- location required just to show me the weather in a static place, lol

- claims to be e2e but apple controls all keys and identities

- basically sells out all users' icloud data in china, and totally doesn't do the same in the US, because tim pinky swears

- everything is closed source

No shit. People actually do not apprend intelligence agencies have the capability, desire and resources to operate legitimate "privacy" services. Why not just roll out the red carpet and let all the sus people walk in?

It is 2024 and there are still people who cling to the idea there can be privacy with email, so much so they are willing to be parted with their money for the "privilege". I really cannot imagine a more diametrically opposed schism in privacy threat modeling.

Once-intelligent narration of scientific videos has now been replaced with cinematic music and suspenseful drone sounds. I wish science would stop trying to compete with art and just deliver useful and already interesting information. Remember Bill Nye? Now all we get are attempts to clone Interstellar.

What are you trying to say?

I think it's trying to communicate.

Companies selling stuff that lasts do not themselves last. Same reason there is no "ethical" consumption anymore.

How is this any different than say working at Tesla today?

Shades of that Twitter executive who shared a picture of herself in a sleeping bag at the office, presumably doing "hardcore engineering". She later got fired regardless.

Anecdotally, some managers like to show how they're present physically yet they don't actually contribute anything.

They weren't cheap, money just still had value back then.

What's bizarre is how few people understand how currency has become devalued since its separation from the gold standard, and even more so in the last 5 years. These are the same fools who put their money into "high yield" savings accounts giving them 3% when official inflation is >5%.

Check out beancount and plaintext accounting. So much better than spreadsheets, IMO.

You can't, because Github like so many other bad companies have decided to externalize security on to users, forcing them into 2FA so they don't have to pay to support all the irresponsible people whose accounts get compromised. Make no mistake, this is 100% a financial decision that has nothing to do with any security.
