>>Something I don't get about people on HN and their attitude towards Wikipedia.

You are overestimating your average hacker news reader.

I'd modify that to add in the words "in recent times". There was a time the HN community was reliably smarter and awesome than average.

As much as I like google I really don't want to go to yet another language. I rather focus on building content rather than have to maintain my page in dart and in JavaScript because of fragmentation issues.

Dart compiles to JavaScript, and the language is pretty standard stuff, if you know any C style language you can pick it up quickly.

The compiled Javascript is an abomination.

That initial 17 KLOC Hello World was an abomination, but it isn't looking anywhere near as bad these days.

Don't waste your time. It doen't have anything ground breaking.

When they said elite, banks, law firms, and consulting business did not come to mind. The first two I consider them as leeches.

To be fair, so is the third one. At least lawyers give advice that spans a broader range than "fire people to goose short-term profits". :D

I'm quite sure you're just trolling but I'm curious to know why you think the first two are leeches but not the third.

You're by definition a leech when instead of being allowed to go bankrupt you're feeding on other people's money (so called "Government support").

That's not how banking got started back in the 15th-16th century, I never read of the Genoa bankers for example asking Philip II "hey, why don't you let us rob you of your South America gold?", as far as I know it was the other way round (Philip II screwing the Genoese bankers). But then again, back in the day we didn't have main-stream media Keynes-ian supporters saying things like "if we dont' give our money to support the banks the whole system would come crumbling down".

OK, but then they look upon the HN readers as fungible headcount that can be outsourced. Different strokes for different folks - and the more you understand the rules of other's games the better you do.

Thanks for this comment. I'm glad that some people understand OOP. It gets really anoying reading the whining Of developers that don't realize that it is them that suck, not really the patterns, language, or whatever they are attacking. Ruby programmers use to do this a lot.

I imagine they would if the project itself is still worth something and they are donating to a non-profit.

A more interesting question would be how do you evaluate how much you get to write off you taxes? Adobe is donating presumably because they believe the current value of it is low, but just as easily they could argue that as a mature platform it is worth hundreds of millions.

Sometimes re-write is easier.

A person without a job is more likely to be depressed, even if they don't need the job to pay their bills i.e. Rich people.

College is still useful. Basketball is a real longshot.

You guys are full of shi*t. You actually believe that high IQ means more intelligent. And now you find an excuse to your drug use and say, "see, I use drugs because I'm smart". why don't you guys just admit that you guys are too weak minded and the only reason you use drugs is because you are too weak to a avoid peer presure.

What does my Karma need to be to get a down vote link? People use drugs for a lot of reasons, Correlation != Causation comes to mind here.

I meant to say that IQ is a bad measurement of intelligence. If you want to get high and legally try epazote. It has many uses but few know that it can also be smoked. You can even plant it on your back yard and it will grow back every year.
