great to hear, thanks for trying it out.

we've been considering adding flights as a feature, what would be the easiest way to enter your destination: flight#, airport code?

I just went through this process and it seemed like a scam. After registering I got a sales call where they pushed the $300 package, suggesting that it would take over a month to get set up with Apple if I did not purchase it. When I refused, they had the audacity to say I should reconsider purchasing when I could afford it.

I registered on iupdate.dnb.com and only paid $50 to expedite the request for a DUNS number. The entire process was complete in a week and we were approved by Apple.

thanks! I tried implementing an area to slide over the keyboard, but the touch events of the keys were always getting priority. I'll try out some different methods and see if I can get it to work in a way that will get approved by Apple.

I like the idea of the acceleration controlling cursor speed, I'll try it out and see how it feels.

After I get it to a place that feels good, I'll either release it as a component that can be dropped in, or open source it.

It takes a few tricks, but it is possible to attach a gesture recognizer to the keyboard window in an App Store-compatible fashion: https://github.com/rpetrich/SelectWithSwipes

thanks. I was working on a similar app - but yes, it was influenced by that concept video.

good suggestion for the pop-up after a selection, I will add that in.

going to submit it to the App Store this week, I will follow up when it is available

IMHO you should credit the author of that video. While your work is amazing and you should be praised for your achievement, you should also make it clear about your inspiration.

Awesome job, I'll install it as soon as it hits the App Store

very much agree. apart from anything else, the inspiration is so obvious that if you don't credit you're basically just asking for a fight. and if you get it in the app store he might even be in a position to hit you with a DMCA takedown. my guess is it wouldn't happen, but why take the chance when all you have to do is give credit where credit's due? it's the right thing to do anyway.

I emailed Daniel Hooper (the originator of the idea) about this when I did my own version and here's what he said:

"I'm glad to see others like yourself implement my idea, and it would be great if you could give me credit when you release your app."

I think giving him credit is the right thing to do. It costs nothing and is more than a fair deal given how brilliant a concept it is.

not true, I just got my I/ON pre-registration email

Thanks. I forgot the name when posting this.

Former United States Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff supports it.

"Chertoff has been an advocate of full body scanners at airports. In 2010 he admitted that a client of his security firm, the Chertoff Group, is Rapiscan Systems, one of the two manufacturers of this technology."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Chertoff

The company name is RAPISCAN? I'm guessing they don't pronounce it rape-i-scan. That's just a little too on the nose.

it seems that "rapey-scan" would be most appropriate

He said 'person,' not 'politician.'

Then again, I know lots of people who'd support this...

What are the rules regarding conflict of interests for holding federal positions in the US?

Only one rule: don't get caught. We've got serious corruption problems.

His first point is incorrect, native iOS apps can be linked through custom URLs - http://www.handleopenurl.com/

Android streamlines this, and provides it out of the box, backed by the full-confidence of the OS :-)

For data, you can use ContentProvider:

You can also use capabilities of other applications, including UI and logic by reusing their Intents :-)

Smalltalk and Lisp gray-beards must wet their pants every time they read up on Android. It's pretty much the epitome of a clean, extensible, user-oriented system. Fast, open, garbage collected, gorgeous and just clean. How on earth did they get some many things right, out of the box?

Hello HN,

Please check out the latest collaboration between myself and bmahler - Instant Search for iPad.

I'd love to hear what this community thinks, is this something you would use? What would you like added to make it more useful?

Agreed. Instead of getting users to better results and having them click through to the site, Google Instant seems to want the user to keep asking different questions until the answer is available in page title and abstract that Google presents.
