Ads pay for much of the content we consume or services we use, my policy is to give a site a chance to show that they run ads in a respectful way- that is, ads don’t interfere with the user experience. If they abuse ads, then I block them, otherwise you’re basically stealing content.

The Wikipedia article [1] has a lot more details about the case including the extent of the child’s injuries (far more serious than his cover story would indicate) and Mr. Roberson’s prior history of physical abuse of ex spouses and his other children.

It appears that “shaken baby syndrome” was just one of the pieces of evidence that the state had in this case.

For completeness, this article indicates: [1]

> Roberson's ex-girlfriend, as well as her daughter and one of her nieces—ages 10 and 11, respectively—testified that Roberson would shake and spank Curtis when she wouldn't stop crying. Roberson's ex-wife from a past marriage also testified that he physically beat and abused her. (Roberson's lawyers argue in his habeas corpus petition that the witnesses were biased, were not credible, and contradicted each other, and that the accusations only came out well after Roberson's arrest, following prodding and leading questions from police.)

and:

> "The condition of Nikki's lung tissue cannot be reconciled with the conclusion that her death was caused by blunt force head injuries, inflicted or otherwise," the lung pathologist, Francis Green, wrote in the habeas petition.

> The radiologist also concluded that there were not "multiple impacts" to Curtis' skull, as a doctor testified at Roberson's trial—just a single, minor impact that was insufficient to cause her death.

I like the approach of a Hall of Fame NHL player, Teemu Selanne- he asks "how good are you on your bad day?" and "if you're having a bad day, what can you do to make it a little bit better?"

Obviously there are exceptions when you're physically ill, but for the most part I think this approach is a good one to keep in mind because it forces you to think how you can make even an off day a little better.

lol this brings back memories. Spent 5 years working in BBV in high school and college, my first day on the job was when they installed dvd shelves in the middle of the store, was there when we removed all VHS, was there when Netflix streaming began and when we launched our own streaming service. Good times.

Worked in Paris for a year, great work environment, wonderful work/life balance and benefits, smart co-workers, shit pay.

Just curious, how do you define anxiety?

One thing I haven't seen mentioned- a wall mounted monitor arm. I use an adjustable sit/stand desk and hated even the minor vibrations produced by my typing, attaching my monitor to a wall mounted arm eliminated this issue.

Even a desk-mounted arm dampens movement drastically compared to modern cheap stands which shake like crazy from every touch. Another upside is that you can push a keyboard right to or even beyond the point where the display “casts shadow” and there’s nothing for it to stumble upon. Useful when you switch to pen and paper mode.

I'm not a dev but more technical than the vast majority of the non-dev population- I couldn't get docker to work and gave up trying to get it to work.

Thank you for this, perfect read for a weekend morning, reminds me of Ilf and Petrov’s chronicle of their drive across the USA around the same time- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-storied_America

Don’t confuse angellist with the crowdfunding platforms. Crowd funding platforms are used by companies that can’t attract legitimate VC investment, angel list are real VC syndicates that send accredited investors opportunities to invest in specific deals.
