I don't know why you assume this is about me? Participating in traffic is better if it's predictable, people passing on the right break that assumption.
Wow this looks pretty rad, I wish I knew about it before! Having real cars in the game really makes it more fun to me. I dunno why, but playing racing games with a bunch of fake cars isn't as exciting (Super Mario Kart being an exception). It's especially fun when you see one of your cars, or a friend's car in the game.
I like that my current phone can do both, and I'll hold onto it as long as I can. Why can't we just have both options? Why do we need to keep removing features to save 2mm of space inside the phone? Oh right, it's not really so much to save space, it's to make an extra $0.01 per phone they sell.
Why do people keep saying this whole "it's hard for humans, too" thing in every damn self driving car thread? Is it some kind of excuse to let the self driving car be shit at it? I don't care if people are shit at it, isn't the whole point that these cars will be safer than people?
Yeah we know people suck at driving. What situation is there that people don't suck at? People suck at 4 way stops. People suck at merging onto the freeway. People can't even exit the freeway without causing a mess. People can't even drive in a straight goddamn line without varying speed by 10mph and weaving all over the road. What exactly are we trying to say here?
I'm confused, is your concern that enough Waymos shut themselves down on a one way road, at the same intersection, so as to block the intersection? Yes, I could see that as being a concern. I suspect it would be reported almost immediately, and would be at the top of the list of for the folks at Waymo to address. The cars weren't abandoned. They eventually moved. Though, I suspect they had to be manually driven (virtually or otherwise), out of the way. I can see how this could be a problem, but considering it would likely be at the top of the list of problems for Waymo -- again, during an emergency -- that I suspect it's not a serious concern in the long run.
Would I preferred that they had a light turn on that was flashing "An unknown emergency is occurring, please park me"? Yes, I think that would be a better solution. I would have preferred better performance from Waymo. My entire point here is that I'm happy that in my neighborhood, the Waymos were acting in a fail-safe manner, rather than just winging it.
First responders have a method of disengaging autonomy and driving the car manually out of the way, described in the waymo first responder manual. Allegedly EMS can’t actually do so due to liability issues, but that is entirely the fault of American litigiousness and not Waymo.
