Interesting read.
The consequences of this will be important.
I always thought the balkanization of the internet would occur because of world governments not because of tech leaders personal feelings or corporate influence.
I expect tech leaders to be dragged in front of the senate real soon.
I consider myself antifa in part because my great grandfather was murdered by the Nazis, and I consider it to be part of my social and civil responsibility to oppose fascism.
Antifa is not just anti-facism. If you go to any of their rallies or counter protests you'll find most are socio-anarchists or communists who don't see anything wrong with violence.
While many antifa are anarchists or anti-capitalists, the defining feature is opposing fascism. Don't succumb to a trivializing caricature of antifa as being primarily about wanton violence against property.
"Nationalize Google!" Okay, no, that would be turning the knob to 11.
I upvoted you because I was like, "Yeah, maybe some regulation might be good." Then I thought about who would be doing the regulating and now I'm much less enthusiastic. :-/
Still, it does seem like there should be a bit more, uh, community input into how these vast silos are administered.
Or maybe because its employees feared being doxxed for participating:
> “We had hoped to have a frank, open discussion today as we always do to bring us together and move forward. But our Dory questions appeared externally this afternoon, and on some websites Googlers are now being named personally,” Pichai wrote in an email to employees. “Googlers are writing in, concerned about their safety and worried they may be ‘outed’ publicly for asking a question in the Town Hall.”
Can you share a link? Is love to know where that number came from. I'm personally incredulous that someone could be fired over such a reasonable letter, even if their conclusions were incorrect.
