>> Mr.Graham is the native speaker here himself

Mr.Graham natively speaks english, but "American" is not his native accent. He's from England.

Congrats, awesome tech from talented and nice guys!

PlanGrid did as well! Highly recommended.

Grellas has been our lawyer since 2008, we also highly recommend.

Same here!

Why do the top links on reddit stop leaving the front page?

This link was #1 for about 10 minutes:

http://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/1cen7i/explosion_...

and now has vanished, along with all other sponsored links. A horrible tragedy like this seems leagues more important than the current top link:

http://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/1cebz2/spotted_cookie...

I don't know what happened to the /r/worldnews post, but that subreddit's rules do say that it's for non-US sources and news. Also, that post linked to a Gawker site, which for many is reason enough to kill it.

Now trending from a more valid source:

http://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/1cerrp/boston_mar...

During disasters such as this, I appreciate reddit's scale (and diversity) for up-to-date information in the comments.

Seems that some other, far better source, should have replaced it by now. There were a few up-in-coming, but they too vanished.

I think its because the threads are getting too much traffic. It seems like reddit first will make a thread read only then will remove it from the front page, this all seems temporary. This is all from observation though Im not sure the actual algorithms involved here.

That's because the mods keep removing it -- reddit will have some contract with telegraph.uk or other such websites (they pay reddit for the higher traffic)

I enjoyed thinking about what Nabokov was assigning to his students:

"Leo Tolstoy, Nikolai Gogol, Marcel Proust, James Joyce, Jane Austen, Franz Kafka, Gustave Flaubert, and Robert Louis Stevenson"

Looks like I'll be reading Metamorphosis( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Metamorphosis) tonight!

Good choice, Nabokov placed Kafka's Metamorphosis second only to Ulysses as a 20th century novel (as of 1965):

http://lib.ru/NABOKOW/Inter05.txt

My greatest masterpieces of twentieth century prose are, in this order: Joyce's Ulysses, Kafka's Transformation, Biely's Petersburg, and the first half of Proust's fairy tale In Search of Lost Time.

Nabokov's lectures on all those writers were published as a book, and it's very good.

What is it called?

I forgot that they were split into two: Lectures on Literature and Lectures on Russian Literature. They're all terribly entertaining.

Please also give it a try and read Gogol's "Dead Souls". I don't know how to explain it, but I think is the book that best explains the 20th century (even though it was written in the 1840s). Yes, Gogol was that good.

Dead Souls, absolutely, but also the stories (The Nose and The Overcoat, at a minimum). Gogol is a one-of-a-kind genius. He is one of the funniest writers who ever lived, poignant, and utterly insane in the purest Russian way. He had an enormous influence, all of it good. I love Gogol!

The part at the end:

"On a separate note, I feel like we could be doing more to help YC companies. We're in awe of what you've built over there at the Y and we'd love to grab a coffee and talk more about how we could be helpful to both the companies and you."

Is the reason you should know this is satire.

Really?

This is what gave it away for me: "From: Harj Taggar".

Since it did not appear satire to me at firs glance it means I'm quite naive when it comes to the VC world. Good to know.

I still don't get it, myself. Seems like a perfectly reasonable note.

I think they get messages like this all the time, which is why they think it is funny. So, satire for this specific example, but suggests an increasing level of annoyance from the Y partners when they actually get these messages.

Why not ultima 7? Ultima8 wasn't as interactive as ultima7 imho.

I agree, graphics were prettier, but controls were sluggish and unresponsive. Jumping mechanics were a nightmare.

The series really started its downward slope from there.

Very, very recommended: Ultima Retrospective[1] by "Spoony". Goes into detail on the rise and fall of Ultima.

Holy unskippable obnoxious video ads, Batman!

I think it was the kind of game that was so bad that looking back I have fond memories.

I wasn't all bad, I liked the new world and the darker "edge" of the plot (I still remember the beheading scene), the complex magic systems, the duels with the sorcerers...

Ultima 9 was the really stinking blob of pus.

I have the exact same experience. Ultima7 made me a developer, and was my first dive into editing bash scripts (that fucker was impossible to get working in windows95). Enabling the debug mode and hacking on gumps was my favorite pass time.

Sharing an office with these guys has allowed us to try our their TF servers for the last weeks and it has been amazing. Trying to get 8 people (5 of which who are not technically savvy) to play together has always been a huge pain for TF2. With Minefold it was a click of a button!

"They are liars, shady business, IP violators and are downright dangerous."

This is completely prejudice! You've never met Install Monetizer, and don't know if they participate in the same activities as the companies that you're referring to.

"I believe OP is very polite: There are no good reasons to not shame them publicly."

This is childish, and I'd expect better from any contributing member of VLC.

Please read: > I can speak quite a bit about this "industry"

I never mentionned IM.

I'd give him some lenience...for anyone who distributes desktop software via the web, there is a continuous battle against fake or wrapped distributions.
