Curious if Dex (YC 19) (getdex.com) is at risk — their LinkedIn integration requires a chrome extension to scrape data rather than LinkedIn APIs.

The Chrome extension approach may shift some (most?) of the risk to the end user, since technically they are now the one scraping. Theoretically getdex would be relatively better off in this arrangement, while putting their customers into a legal gray area.

How does the one-click unsubscribe not get triggered by enterprise SPAM tools like Mimecast or Barracuda?

Lets assume you gave notice because you're moving to a new job. I have a hard time imagining a scenario where your new employer would be OK with a multi-month delay to your start.

Will this also improve performance of Electron apps on Mac?

It would need to get into Electron, if possible, then apps would need to update to the newest Electron - which many apps don’t always do.

As a Linux user I can confirm that they can lag years behind the current version of Electron.

A song by The Decemberists, "When the War Came"[1], covers this topic. One of my favorites!

Huh. I've listened to this song many times without really internalizing the lyrics.

I don't think he had the correct buyer either. While medical professionals may be the user, for this type of service you need to be selling into hospitals or health systems. They have the incentive for their providers, collectively, to improve the quality of care.

I doubt UpToDate makes their bones off individual subscriptions. The real money to keep a company afloat is from b2b enterprise contracts.

I thought exactly the same when they were talking about trying to convince doctors to buy it - surely they don’t misunderstand their market that much though?

Yes, exactly - it's though big enterprise contracts that generate revenue, but they are hard to close as a startup. Selling this service to companies that already have those contracts is a faster way of creating value for those customers.

In your example, that middle-person verifies that what you are purporting to sell, TSLA stock, is in fact TSLA stock. They provide value by way of quality assurance and recourse if fraud is involved.

How can I be sure what you're selling me is in fact what you say it is? And if it's not, what recourse do I have?

If I buy something directly from another person on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, I'm not going to pay full retail price, even if the item is unused, because I'm giving up any form of recourse if the item is defective that I would have received had I purchased directly from the manufacturer.

How can I be sure what you're selling me is in fact what you say it is? And if it's not, what recourse do I have?
A fundamental design in cryptocurrencies is that it's mathematically impossible to create "fake" tokens without some sort of quantum computer. What this means is that the DEcentralized Exchange (DEX) that you're performing the trade on will have liquidity for the pair of assets and as you click the right button to select TSLA for USD, you're getting TSLA. There is no mathematical way to get scammed.

For your example of FB marketplace/Craigslist, you want an Escrow service with a way to have you or a 3rd party validate you're not getting ripped off. That type of service exists via cryptographic primitives in both Bitcoin and Ethereum allowing a transaction to be blocked if there is something fraudulent.

Step 1: Record yourself giving your smart devices commands. Step 2: Schedule playback while out committing crimes. Instant alibi!
