Which movie is this quote from? :)

The one that first rule prohibits us talking about it.

Fight Club

And is probably a reference to the Pinto Memo - a cost-benefit analysis performed by Ford in 1973 [0]

I tried to find out the name of the manufacturer of the low-flow oxygen delivery approach recommended by WHO, but couldn't. Anybody else able to figure it out?

There is no manufacturer because there is no equipment needed for low flow oxygen, beyond an oxygen supply (from gas bottle) and a tube with two nozzles that go into the patient's nostrils.

That's why WHO recommends it to hospitals who can't afford anything else.

Opportunity, Rationalization and Motivation, but never explicitly Profit.

What if he's lost the key?

Then he/she/they cannot prove. It is what it is.

What I would do, is to start a new project, under a new pseudonym, to demolish representative democracy and move towards a direct democracy. The possibility is already there because of modern technology. The only ones who would fight this are the current representatives.

I would be leery of upending representative systems that at least theoretically have an anti-majoritarian bias. Even if I'm in the majority today, there's no guarantee that I will be tomorrow, and a system that helps to preserve my rights against mob rule seems reasonable.

You mean a system that does not allow change? Or only in the interest of the system and the people that believe in it?

A direct democracy might make sense for any issue on which most citizens are both well enough informed to make a decision, and also motivated. But not even full-time parliamentarians can stay informed on most of them, so they need subcommittees and so forth. Given how many issues come up for governments to deal with, some amount of division of labor seems better. Not that our current representative democracy does not have plenty of issues of its own...

Yeah I'm not a big fan of straight majority rules... not to say the US government is perfect...

Hi from the UK, where I am currently getting a little tired of having to explain the difference between ochlocracy and democracy(1) to people who keep insisting that 52% is 'the will of the people' and that to not immediately fall in line behind that 52% is to be a traitor to the country and an enemy of democracy itself.

(1)The 'demos' being all the people and the 'ochlos' being the mob.

Satoshi was an anarchist

Me too.

I'd never damage or take your property if you don't want that.

Nor would I force any sort of change upon you based on what I believe is true, as long as I don't feel threatened.

you mean direct democracy like the one which caused Trump become president, Hitler become chancellor and UK leaving EU? i think what we really need it's removal of age limits and basic intelligence/adulthood test for voting right

But...

Trump is the representative of America right?

Hitler was a representative for some political party right?

And the UK is representative of its people right?

"20-50 of my friends" on every club night?

I believe it, I used to be involved with an 'ultra lounge' here in Indy and the owner and I had tons of people in our contact list we'd call and send text messages to when we were having a slow night, mostly mid 20's women. We'd tell them to come out, give them a few house shots free which were mostly orange juice with a splash of alcohol, and then people that would walk in would be far more inclined to stay instead of immediately leaving, the girls would often get a drink or two bought for them off walk ins too then they'd usually leave within an hour or two to places more in their price range on the same block and we'd have effectively drawn a self-sustaining crowd.

We'd also put out the brass posts and rope sometimes on slow nights, simply appearing like it was going to be busy enough to have to manage a line was often enough to get people to linger longer.

If a big group came in, like a bridal shower doing a bar craw, we'd usually keep them around longer with a couple of rounds of the house shot too just to keep the female to male ratio up. Eating a few bucks per round of IVs was almost always a good spend in that case.

I'd take the term "friends" loosely. A club promotor likely has a ton of people they know and could call on.

Exactly this.

These are "friends" in the sense that we both mutually want something from eachother, they want free drinks and VIP access, I want them to do free shit for me.

edit: remember this is pre social networking.

If they were in college, university or first real world job, it’s very likely they had lots or acquaintances they could tap for mutually beneficial help.

I am not an engineer. I have great respect for engineers. Engineers, however, generally have views of other professions being easily disrupted wholly by AI. But god forbid, someone suggests that engineers can be taken over by AI, and we all lose our shit. lol.

Because when someone who doesn’t understand ML and AI makes that assertion, they’re just ignorantly speculating in a pointy-haired-boss sort of way. Whereas an engineer who actually works with AI will have much more realistic views on what can and can’t be automated in the near futur
