There's OpenCL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenCL - this BTW, also runs on NVIDIA GPUs too...

OpenCL is completely open (source) and so why wouldn't we, all of us, throw our weight behind OpenCL.

(no, I have no connection with them and have nothing to do with them, other than having learned a bit).

I'm sorry but IBM has moved out of (Software) products and currently only does IT services. Its revenue (from Software) is completely tied to $/hour that it can earn from its contracts. Arvind Krishna is simply trying to talk his business up.

My take: the truth will lie somewhere in between, with the balance moving into the AI corner with time. Also, the real truth will emerge from IBM's financials. The growth (or decline) of their revenue from Software Contracts will speak for itself over the next few years.

Also, from what I'm seeing in the Industry, the number of Software hires have begun to decline with more engineers being let go.

(I'm trying to understand this from a DR/fault tolerance perspective). Have any of you seen any impact to your computing and network systems. If yes:

* what kind of impact (please detail)

* what did you/your Org. do to recover.

* what do you think should have been done.

Does having a "Wall of Shame" make sense? Basically put details on a shared google sheet with names, details etc., so that: a. Other freelancers can avoid them. b. They know about it...

Would that work?

"Wall Of Shame" solutions (i.e. reputation databases) mostly fail because they're easily subverted via poisoning/enshittification, unless they're curated, in which case the curator(s) may be subject to various forms of abuse.

I have a similar issue using a (non-google) videoconferencing tool on Firefox. It is very irritating that I have to switch browsers (both Konqueror and Chrome work) just for my VC needs...

I think it is a Firefox issue (another friend reported the same issue).

I agree and I think this difficulty should be recognized and made so earlier rather than later.

The US should sanction India, it is a better way to go.

I disagree with this. We have a lot of people dissenting within India. They are not tied down except for counterattacks on social media by people who disagree with them - which to my mind is fair, as both sides are free to (verbally) attack each other - the essence of free speech.

US critics, when they attempt to influence Indian elections, definitely deserve to be slapped down. US (or any other Country) would do similarly. eg. Canada claimed so recently...

:-(( All this stuff - What happens when... is really nice. I know it.

The problem is: I've been trying to cut sugar (forget eliminate) out of my diet for YEARS. 2 days into not having sugar and I go into such severe cravings that I knock off a sweetened glass of milk (with all its consequences - I'm lactose intolerant).

HELP!!! Please can people here tell me HOW do I handle the cravings (and don't tell me "grin and bear it" - at its height, I'm just about ready to kill someone :-( and from there on, it's just a matter of time before I lapse).

Any/all inputs that will help me get through the craving are very welcome.

Obviously, you will have to try things out for yourself, but have you tried getting rid of sugar with absolutely no attempt to limit caloric intake? I can't say it will be a perfect solution, but it did work for me when I first started eating very low carb, which was over a decade ago. Once you're used to not eating sugar, it does become easier to start cutting calories. I didn't worry about it for at least a few months.

Thank you.

You are welcome, and I wish you the best of luck.

Having been on the "other side" of the table, I can kinda answer this. In my experience, the interviewees who talk too much are the bullshitters (in fact that's a red flag). They usually can't code for nuts. The ONLY way to separate the wheat is to give them a problem and then see how they navigate it.

Those who can talk AND code are worth their weight in gold.

Talking too much can be a sign of nervousness, or maybe because interviewee read a an article advising to keep no pauses. That's not necessary a bad indicator. It's when you are fed with long, but barely related stories instead of answers on concise questions then you can suggest bs is being produced.
