I've been working with ScriptEd in San Francisco and it's also been awesome! It's really special to be a part of their program and see the impact they're having on local kids and community.

Another great and innovative app thrown into the dust from an acquisition. They actually made working with SQL a joy.

Yeah I'm pretty bummed about this. Are there any similar locally-run apps that make it easy to get graphs from your SQL queries? I've seen a few SaaS apps like Periscope that do similar, but I'm not a fan of letting other companies load up our entire database just to make some graphs.

I'm a big fan of Looker[1]. It's one of the best BI tools I've used and it lets you work with SQL but abstracts away much of the minutiae of writing it. It's an enterprise SaaS app, although they do allow you to self host.

For side projects and such I use Metabase[2] which is open source and pretty useful for giving business users access to query data. Its visualizations are rudimentary but workable.

You might check out Redash or Caravel. They're both open source, you host them yourself, and have a bunch of dashboard and access control functionality.

Caravel in particular has some great exploration tools. You can build queries either by hand or by using visualization specific drag and drop. Caravel is getting regular updates from the AirBnB team too.

If you want more power I recommend using a Jupyter notebook and Python. There's also Rodeo which is like R Studio for Python.

I second Metabase recommendation. Like the fact that it's OSS.

DBvisualizer ... A Java app but it does that job pretty okay.

Yup. Just submitted it to http://ourincrediblejourney.tumblr.com

I managed to set one up last week with Wells Fargo. They wouldn't set up a credit account without a SSN, but I have check and savings. Granted, it was because I'm moving there next week, but the process only took an hour, and a few scanned documents.

Colour scheme is awesome!

I think its use is somewhat limited until there's search by genre however, when compared to last.fm events at least. With so many bands around it's hard to think of one to search to see if they've got any gigs on.

I have struggled for a while to get PeepOpen and MacVim working together. I can run :PeepOpen, and it will switch to the running peepopen application, but it doesn't load up with the project files. I've tried all sorts of .vimrc config settings that the internet has to offer, but none worked.

What's in your config for it?

I actually don't have any .vimrc config for PeepOpen. :cd into your project directory and use the shortcut (I changed my shortcut to cmd+t).

In MacVim preferences, I set "Open files from applications" to "in the current window / and set the arglist"

Signed up!

They have a different writing style, although he did appear right out of the blue..

"Hey buddy, I'm having some trouble with my site. Mind writing a blog post for me?"

More realistically, though, he could've found some PR person after seeing the fallout from his own attempts to calm the storm. If he sticks with it, that would actually be quite smart of him.

I've been with thiswebhost for a number of years now, and Jules has always been the one to answer support tickets, fix server issues, write blog posts, talk to people on twitter and facebook, etc. Running a shared hosting business in the way that they do can't be very easy, so I suppose it's not always feasible to hire full time customer service staff. The latest post addresses that, and explains mostly everything that went wrong with this ordeal.
