Have you ever tried it on Yahoo? They wouldn't let me set my email address to yahoo@mydomain a few years ago, claiming that the "email owner" had blocked this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/t213wkajdz5753k/yahoolies.png?dl=0

Vim also has Vim keybindings. ;)

Sadly, the iOS version has a number of other issues that make it impractical for real use, which is probably why you overlooked it.

(Apologies for the pedantic derail. I couldn't stop myself.)

Shouldn't that be inoremap?

There's no "ctrl" key on the iOS keyboard, though.

The ones I've seen don't ask you to identify one single puppy. They ask you to identify all the puppies, making it rather harder to brute force:

Whilst I agree with your main point, I have to nitpick your aside about running iOS on older devices. When I tried iOS 4.0 on my 3G (and the reason I'm now running 3.1.3 again) the UI would frequently completely freeze for several seconds. That can't be explained away as poorly-tuned animations.

Little Boots's cover of Hot Chip's Ready for the Fun is my current favourite example of Tenori-on music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6tLRCDqJ2c

Paklsound1 (currently £1.19) is an even more similar iPhone app:

The linguists at Language Log don't think too highly of this article (and the BBC radio segment on the same topic):
