I don't think having no understanding of monetary management is strictly a bottom tier problem, the resent financial problems have exposed plenty of people in the middle and upper tiers as well. Lack of money management education is really a problem across the board.

Having an understanding and making smart decisions don't always go hand in hand. I suspect many people know what they are doing is bad for their financial health but simply don't have the will power to do the right thing in the near term because the adverse consequences only come years down the road.

For what it's worth someone asked Joel this after the first DevDays in Boston and he said adding a normal username/password login was at the top of their list.

I started http://www.ourluckydime.com for financial related questions. I've actually enjoyed getting into the marketing and community building side of things and although it hasn't really paid off so far it has been a good experience.

Great list. I didn't see any of the courses in Stanford's Enginnering Everywhere package mentioned, http://see.stanford.edu/see/courses.aspx. I found Programming Paradigms to be a fantastic overview especially the parallel programming and functional programming overviews.

This is something like the 10th post about the CS lectures. Look at the right sidebar for all the others. I remember posting see.stanford.edu lectures a while ago.

Ahh ok, thanks for that. It's amazing what's out there for free these days.

Yep. You can be your own university nowdays.
