I regret wasting ten minutes on reading all of that...

I regret wasting five minutes on the Google "captcha" and then just glancing at the messages

See my sibling comment about fraidc.at

There's fraidyc.at which is quirky but does exactly that for multiple platforms and is based on RSS (i think)

I get your general point but as others said things are getting better.

> Want to find any file anywhere instantly (including newly created)? No, impossible, there is only NTFS Everything app that does it.

Fsearch exists and is pretty much exactly that afaict. https://cboxdoerfer.github.io/fsearch/

> Fsearch exists and is pretty much exactly that afaict

No it's not, it's worse, and Fsearch dev said that it's not possible to implement it as well due to OS deficiencies. So nothing is getting better here.

What does Bernie have to do with this? #whataboutism

Bernie is clearly not someone who would be considered a fascist or nazi but his positions from 2016 expressed now would label him as such by the section of the population who jump straight to that nomenclature.

What I meant was: Why are you talking about Sanders polical views when the issue at hand is Framework's tonedeaf response to the OP's concerns.

Your comment about Sanders might be true (although I doubt that he would espouse the same views as articulated in DHH's blog post https://world.hey.com/dhh/as-i-remember-london-e7d38e64) but it does not add anything to the discussion here, which is why I mentioned whataboutism.

EDIT: and now I re-read the post you were replying to which was indeed about political orientations and how they are viewed over time. My bad.

Still, I think this particular avenue of debate is not going to yield much progress for anybody.

While it can certainly be difficult for anyone to be aware of intra-community drama (especially if it's in semi-transient media like Discord), the moment someone makes you aware of deeply problematic issues is the moment when you have to make a choice how to respond.

The fact that framework leadership responded to this by effectively downplaying the issues raised in the OP shows me that they are deeply misguided. Very disappointing.

At the same time, you cannot fix everything, and you cannot always take a stance on any topic.

Also, depending on your own sensibility, anything can be extremist far right or extremist far left.

So yeah... Cut the framework people some slack.

This bookmarklet to shrink the width has been in my toolbox for a long time: javascript:(function(){%20var%20myBody%20=%20document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0];%20var%20myBodyWidth%20=%20myBody.style.width;%20if%20(!myBodyWidth%20||%20myBodyWidth%20===%20'auto'%20||%20myBodyWidth%20===%20'inherit')%20{%20myBody.style.width%20=%20'1200px';%20myBody.style.marginLeft%20=%20'auto';%20myBody.style.marginRight%20=%20'auto';%20myBody.style.position%20=%20'relative';%20myBody.style.cssFloat%20=%20'none';%20}%20else%20{%20myBody.style.width%20=%20'auto';%20myBody.style.position%20=%20'static';%20}%20})();

Thanks that's an interesting trick.

This is beautified if somebody wants to see how it is done.

  function() {
    var myBody = document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0];
    var myBodyWidth = myBody.style.width;
    if (!myBodyWidth || myBodyWidth === 'auto' || myBodyWidth === 'inherit') {
        myBody.style.width = '1200px';
        myBody.style.marginLeft = 'auto';
        myBody.style.marginRight = 'auto';
        myBody.style.position = 'relative';
        myBody.style.cssFloat = 'none';
    } else {
        myBody.style.width = 'auto';
        myBody.style.position = 'static';
    }
  }

This summarizes the web ghetto pretty neatly.

> The fire broke out on Friday evening at the national information resources service in Daejeon, a major technology hub 140km (87 miles) south of Seoul. The facility is one of three operational government datacentres managing critical digital infrastructure across the country.

> Workers were relocating lithium-ion batteries from a fifth-floor server room to the basement for replacement when one ignited, with the fire spreading to other batteries and adjacent servers. One worker sustained first-degree burns, and firefighters extinguished the fire after 22 hours.

> By Saturday morning, officials had shut down 647 government systems fearing further damage. Government email and intranet systems ground to a halt. Mobile identification services went dark, as did postal banking, complaint portals, and major government websites.

Mindblowing to see the staggeringly high tower of tech upon which modern chips are build. Machines capable of nanometer-precision movements at speeds subjecting their parts to 7G of acceleration... 25KW lasergun pew-pewing tin droplets 50k times per second... The sheer complexity of modern chip designs...

It really evokes Douglas Adams' quip that "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

Just FYI, that was Arthur C. Clarke. Douglas Adams is also extremely quotable, just that one wasn't his.

Oh thank you! Should have listened to my inner voice pushing me to verify the quote's origin

Oh wow, the second link I randomly clicked turned out to be the one on the Mr. Money toy robot I had as a child: https://www.theoldrobots.com/mrmoney.html What a "coin"cidence (ba-dum-tss). It's probably still somewhere in the attic.

I also had one of these! I don't know where it is, it used to be on my (or my brother's) dresser, but I forget if I grabbed it when my mom sold the house. Wonder if it still has money in it.

Still got mine from my childhood. Just put a battery up his bum and tested him. Works perfectly! There was no money inside him though.

My brother still has Mr DJ and Dingbot. This site's got me interested in whether they still work too.
