Could not agree more, it's frustrating that there seems to be such a focus on the 'mechanical' aspect of these keyboards instead of the ergonomic and programmable which are the real stars.

I would love just a low profile programmable keyboard with 5 individual keys instead of the long space bar. That would tick all my boxes.

You could explore a different paradigm entirely. The svalboard (https://svalboard.com/) is the modern evolution of the datahands and goes much further than mere thumb clusters and programmable firmware.

Really great and active community too!

My (some what old) iPhone 11 scans a QR code from a full frame from the camera within 30-50ms using this, or some similar WASM solution.

If I were you, I'd make sure I have a local instance of f.ex Llama 2 and Code lama up and running.

Even though it's not as good as GPT-4, and might even be slower, the value you might get from a local modal in such a case will probably beat most other things. It will allow you to both look stuff up, and even learn new things without needing to copy large parts of potentially irrelevant information beforehand.

Great idea! Turns out, this already works natively on iPhones already from the camera.

I think it often boils down to everyone having an opinion about design/UX. When fixing a software bug in a PR there is often a fairly clear subset of "correct" solutions, but when it comes to design/ux the set is generally bigger and everyone (even non-designers) will have an opinion on how it should look.

Hm, maybe, bikeshedding is a killer in these things... I haven't even seen people attempt it, though. Maybe they all got scared away by us developers years ago?

I'm in a similar boat as I prefer scissor switches, in particular Apples butterfly ones. For me in general it is the travel. All the mechanical switches have significant travel, even the kailh choc ones have a lot more travel compared to butterfly switches.

I'm also looking for a low profile/travel, wireless ergodox. It also has to include QMK or a similar FW that is completely customizable. Unfortunately it is difficult to find a combination to DIY such a keyboard as well.

My biggest gripe with Vivaldi is that the first option when right clicking a link is to open in new tab and focus it. This seems like a small issue, but this is different to all major browsers which has open in new _background_ tab as the default option. There is 10 years of muscle memory for me to overcome to switch and I just can't do it.

It's new tab in the first option for me.

Just checked, you are right! The issue was actually that it focuses the tab when you open it, it does not open it in the background. I have clarified the comment, thanks!

Middle click should do the trick, though sometimes it's broken (usually when people fail to imitate a link with JS).

This being first option is a non issue. Not being able to customize right click menu like in Opera IS a deal breaker.

On macOS, Cmd+click will open the tab in the background. Probably Ctrl+click on Windows/Linux? No need to go through the context menu.

Depends how you do the job, if you initially design for mobile you can use the mobile layout for everyone that does not support grids, and add grids for the traditional desktop layout. Since grid layouts are created as a list of elements, this workflow is actually pretty efficient.

That was a great read, and really shows the benefits of writing good comments.
