Amusing, cringey, and also painful that two of our most common formats - PDF and HTML/CSS/JS - are such a challenge to parse and display. Probably a quarter of AI compute power seems to go into understanding just those two.

I've used almost all of the ones listed including rolling my own RSS to ePub script. I've been using Readwise Reader lately which has been a great blend of vimish keys, read it later, tagging, and AI summaries.

What didn't you like about Graphene? And hope to see in Lineage?

For me the dealbreaker on Graphene was inability to record my phone conversations. I went back to Lineage.

GrapheneOS can record phone calls just fine, there is a record button in the dialer.

I can confirm this, and will add: on my Pixel 6 running GrapheneOS, I have to scroll down the "6 pack" of buttons on the in-call screen to reveal the record call button. There is no UI hint that these buttons are within a scrollable element, so discoverability is poor.

i too would like to know, I use graphene right now and can't imagine it being better.

Well said. It's a relative of the premature optimization problem. I often think of them as unearned problems.

Alternately, it's more fun to write sci-fi than to deal with today's reality.

And the gap is widening...

I was expecting a tale of using Courier for a programming font.

Yeah, me too. I hoped for a killer-reason to switch to Courier with a smug sense of superiority.
