It’s quite clear with DNC sabotaging Bernie Sanders campaign in 2016 and the way they handled 2024. Losing to Trump was an acceptable outcome compared to challenging the establishment.
I was a very skeptic on AI assisted coding until I tried Cursor and experienced the super autocomplete. It is ridiculously productive. For me it’s to the point it makes Vim obsolete because pressing tab correctly finishes the line or code block 90% of the time. Every developer having an opinion on AI assistance should have just tried to download Cursor and start editing a file.
For me ChatGPT was not that useful for work, the killer app was Cursor. It’ll be similar for other industries, it needs to be integrated directly in core business apps.
As a small business (5 person) owner AI increased our productivity and our margin so I look forward to hiring more people. There is something strange with big companies only looking to reduce staff, are we unofficially in a recession?
Here in France people my age (millennials) don't have a TV. People watch movies and series on their laptop, and those who are more into it have a video projector for home cinema. I'm always surprised to read that a TV in the living room is still a thing for non-older generations.
I’m so tired of this recent obsession with the stock market. Now that retail is deeply invested it is tainting everything, like here on a technology forum. I don’t remember people mentioning Apple stock every time Steve Jobs made an announcement in the past decades. Nowadays it seems everyone is invested in Nvidia and just want the stock to go up, and every product announcement is a mean to that end. I really hope we get a crash so that we can get back to a more sane relation with companies and their products.
Network effect is strong. That’s why they buy already successful networks. I’m sure he recognizes that he has no clue how to build another one and that it was mostly luck of being at the right place at the right time.
That’s the narrative I keep reading but meanwhile here in Europe the only BYD (and Chinese) EV models that are sold are luxury ones, mostly SUV. Where are these all these cheap decent Chinese EVs the market is supposed to be flooded with?
Also specifically where are affordable family cars? Seems Chinese are following the same playbook as other legacy manufacturers: you want a family car? That’s gonna be a SUV. Oh sorry you want non ridiculous cargo space? That means our biggest luxury SUV at 70k€ (that has the cargo space of a cheap small minivan from the 2000s).
I fear end of ZIRP has even worst implications. I’ve got a feeling it’s not just the tech job market that is bad, but the tech industry as a whole was too circular, doing B2B with other tech companies (maybe there is a better word?) all fueled by free money and the house of cards crumbled.
Don't think its just in tech. My wife is in the pharma industry on the research side. Just couple of years ago, she would have recruiters cold-calling her at least 2-3 times a week. She was part of a mass layoff back in spring,2024 when her entire team got axed. Almost took her 5 months and several rounds of interview before she landed two offers. Her background at one point allowed her to pick and choose were she wanted to work. Now that's not the case anymore. It's an employers market right now. I don't see that changing anytime soon.
