just curious , if anyone knows —

is this the same game played by FTX sam in that Michael Lewis crypto biopic ??

I've not watched FTX's biopic - I think it's one Michael got wrong. But Michael Lewis is a Liar's Poker fan from his days at Salomon.

what do you think he got wrong (in general or particularly) ??

not saying it was my favorite book but i did enjoy michael lewis’ description of the card game & such

Which book? OP seems to be referencing _Going Infinite_ which is widely regarded as a bad take[1], while the card game you reference seems to be Liar's Poker, from Lewis' book of the same name.

I just started posting a “humor” short story series i’m doing almost daily on tiktok and soon substack —

https://www.tiktok.com/@blondynwrites

It’s titled — Big City, Short Story

Not saying it’s top-tier by any means but the writing style is designed to be funny, while being satire, in a ‘Pop Art’ / Almost Dr. Seussian sense.

Don’t know anything about YC’s business model or the direction they want to grow.

But the community is very thoughtful & already here. I think a HN SM App, whether part of their present business plan or not would have some mass appeal.

Just probably isn’t something they necessarily want to do

i <33 mi CDs , especially in z car

I use Apple Notes but it drives me sooo crazy that you can’t left/right swipe between Notes

How is that even possible

Also what’s kinda cool is he encourages e-mailing him / reaching out . He’s pretty great

This is exactly what I wanted. I think I'm going to follow these steps and then branch out and experiment. Thanks a ton!

For sure !! ^-^ Happy to be able to help.

Definitely e-mail him if you have questions —

think he really enjoys the Hacker News crowd & is always game to be of service

essence of this comment —-

the singular reason me love HN

i just want a HN social network :33

what's it worth to you on an annual basis?

I'm happier just running an Elgg instance on a cloud server and inviting the people I know to post there. 10-12 people sharing shit they found elsewhere and starting conversations is more than enough for me.

maybs explore crypto twitter (if u’d like to) 10-12 peeps sharing wud probs be like HN being exclusive “tech posts”

iykyk

- e-mail address / pfp

i like her writing a lot / one amongst z few bloggers who’s posts me like to read (beyond fred / paul , etc

good writer

is there a great collection of his letters in a book you’d recommend?

i love Jack Kerouac’s “Windblown World” (an awesome collection of his journals / letters / notes on writing) & would highly recommend if you’re a fan

haven’t really explored Flaubert & am curious about where’d be a good place to start

In English and if you can find it, Geoffrey Wall's translation is close to the French and his selection's free of moral judgments.

thank you for the translation tip

i <33 stephen mitchel’s tao te ching [1] & ever since have much appreciated a great translation pro tip

There is the book that the linked review is covering, The Letters of Gustave Flaubert by NYRB publishing, which covers a lot of his life.

Another is Flaubert-Sand: The Correspondence from 1993, which is a selection of letters between Flaubert and George Sand.

If you can read french, the Rouen collection is probably the most complete, but there are other french collections. If you're just looking to start with Flaubert in general you can start with Mme. Bovary, rightly regarded as one of the best novels ever. Flaubert's control over his sentences, the breathtaking style, is incredible to read.

thanks soo much :D

will probs check out mme bovary tn if i can get a pdf
